Thanks for checking and replying. I have tried Light mode, Dark mode, and Auto mode, but I get the same weird scroll bar in all three. Did you try Light mode? Do you get the same result as Dark mode?Yes, I see it too -- in Safari with Dark mode on DPreview.
I have not noticed this problem on other websites. So far I have only noticed it on dpreview. But using Opera dpreview is okay. Maybe Safari made a change and dpreview has some old code that no longer works properly with the current Safari. And yet, someone in this thread says that Safari and dpreview work properly and he gets a light gray scroll bar. Hard to figure out what is going on.Must be a Safari bug. No such problem in Firefox nor Chrome.

If they made the scroll bars wider and easier to see, then it wouldn't look...

No, it's normal (acceptable) in Light mode. Thanks for checking and replying. I have tried Light mode, Dark mode, and Auto mode, but I get the same weird scroll bar in all three. Nor have I seen the lack of URL display that Philip mentioned today.Must be a Safari bug. No such problem in Firefox nor Chrome.
Oh, you meant dpreview Dark mode. I thought you meant MacOS Dark mode. I have dpreview in Dark mode and the scroll bar is wonky. I just tried dpreview Light mode and now the scroll bar is solid light gray. I do not like dpreview Light mode though. No, it's normal (acceptable) in Light mode. Thanks for checking and replying. In DPreview Dark mode, the Safari scrollbar looks OK until you actually start to scroll. So maybe it's a DPreview bug, not a Safari bug as I wrote before.
I have sometimes seen the URL disappear in Safari and could find no way to get it back. It does not happen all the time and with multiple tabs open it would only happen for one tab.Nor have I seen the lack of URL display that Philip mentioned today.Must be a Safari bug. It is not possible to select and copy the web address. It use to be possible and it is a very obvious flaw. Is it intentional for some reason of the OS designers? I can now see that it is time to no longer use the Safari browser.
Do you mean dpreview Dark mode or MacOS Dark mode? The screenshot below is from another browser (TOR) Selection and copying of the address is possible - With the new Safari, it is not possible to select the web address. At least I cannot find a way to do this. This is a function that I use quite often and why safari is dumbed down in this way is a mistake by the designers of the OS.
BTW I am having no problem with the scroll bar. It is visible (lite gray) and usable. Dark mode shows the lite gray scroll bar better
Since one of the Mac OS recent upgrades, the ability to select and copy the URL is gone. It is now a permanent feature of Safari. The dpreview site. The Mac OS lite or dark appearance does not affect the Scroll bar. Lite gray against a dark background (dpreview) is easier to see than lite gray against a white background.Do you mean dpreview Dark mode or MacOS Dark mode? The screenshot below is from another browser (TOR) Selection and copying of the address is possible - With the new Safari, it is not possible to select the web address. had the answer - not too obvious but here it is:
Right click in the empty area > "Customize Toolbar" > drag the address bar back up.
You probably accidentally command-dragged it out.
My MacBook behaves the same way and this appears to be by design. On DPReview using my MacBook running Ventura 13.5, I can have either color scroll bars:Oh, you meant dpreview Dark mode. In my case the scroll bar is white all the time with Safari and dpreview Dark mode, not just after I start to scroll.
Help me understand why the "design" only does this with Safari and dpreview Dark mode and not Opera and dpreview Dark mode. I tried Chrome and dpreview Dark mode also and it does not happen. I think someone mentioned that Firefox and dpreview Dark mode it does not happen. See my comment above. If it is intentional then why only Safari? Shouldn't this "design" also create white scroll bars that are almost invisible using Chrome, Opera, Firefox, etc. too and not just Safari? Why does dpreview single out Safari to have this new, better, almost invisible white scroll barOn DPReview using my MacBook running Ventura 13.5, I can have either color scroll bars:
In Reading Mode Light, I get a gray scroll bar that's easy to see.
In Reading Mode Dark, I get the white scroll bar that you showed in your first post.
So it's a website thing.
Yes:Have you tried contacting the administrators?
I upgraded to 13.5.1 a few days ago and got the newest Safari. Same dpreview Dark mode scroll bar problem though.I am on Ventura 13.4.1, but this is not a new problem.
It just now happened again. The Safari URL is blank. I am on Ventura 13.5.2. It is a wikipedia page:Okay, I see what you are talking about here. I misunderstood. What I have seen happen, but not recently, is for the address bar to be there, but it be blank. For example, occasionally I would open a new tab with a website, but the URL was missing from the address bar. It seemed to be a random thing. It could happen with any website and the next time that same website would have the URL displayed. Even after it happened other new tabs would be okay. Rebooting MacOS would fix the problem for awhile. It has been awhile since this has happened to me so maybe Apple finally fixed the Safari bug.

This one happens to be Japanese, but in the past it has happened on various kinds of pages. Note how the URL field is empty:

Thank you for that interesting info. I figured it must be something like that. Weeks ago I posted on the dpreview Site Feedback forum about this (and I posted the link in this thread up above). It would be very helpful if you would post your info in this thread:I have the same issue as you - almost invisible scrollbar on this site, just in MacOS Safari. Other sites display a visible scrollbar in Safari, and other browsers display a visible scrollbar on DP Review.
I think the issue is something that DP Review is doing in its Style Sheets (CSS). In standard CSS, there's limited functionality that allows you to influence the appearance of the scrollbars. But Webkit (the engine behind Safari) has some custom extensions that allow for much more control over the look of them. These "-webkit-scrollbar" properties are being used in one stylesheet (imageViewer.min.css), but it seems to be specifically for the "film strip" on the gallery pages.
I have had a very quick look though the various StyleSheets (and JavaScript) that DP Review uses, and I can't find any specific code that influences the browser window scrollbar (there is some to influence scrollbars in elements within the page), but that doesn't mean that it isn't hidden away somewhere.
If you enable the Developer menu item in Safari's settings, and then use it to choose "Disable Styles", the page will load without any CSS rendering it. It'll look a mess, but you'll notice that the scrollbar becomes the default appearance - grey and visible. This is confirmation that some CSS code somewhere in the site is rendering the scrollbars almost invisible.
Note that this could be an unintentional bug - they could be trying to do something else, but it's having an unintended effect on the scrollbar in Safari.
