Saving up for the rumored om-s 50-200 2.8 and a TC. A fellow hobbyist overheard me worrying about the potential cost, and asked why I didn’t use said money to buy into full frame (yes he owns FF)… I paused, realized we share the same work space and just showed him a bunch of awesome hiking shots that were ruined by my Om-1, 17 1.2 mm and 12-100mm travel kit.

I’m not here asking this community to explain why the m43 rocks or the value of owning two systems (or maybe I am?). I’m all in with m43. I just wanted to ask for a bit of positivity… what are you looking forward to for the future m43? We have available a robust collection of bodies and a magical gaggle of lenses. The roadmap is looking solid, it has gone through an amazing past and present, and the future is fun to dream about. What’s up ahead is always up in the air… so what are you looking at when you stare into the m43 clouds? What are you hoping for? What’s in your personal m43 roadmap?

Me? As stated… That rumored tele lens has me dreaming big.

I'd like an updated PL 100-400mm with the ability to take native TC's

AND, a nice rangefinder from Panasonic, with an updated sensor, better IBIS, PDAF, medium size EVF, and a body not the size of Chicago. That would do it for me.

And, yes, I have FF. But for a lightweight kit with long reach, it's a lot easier carrying M43 than the FF. FF wins in tough light...but if sensor improvements could reach into M43 land, that battle could be closer than it is now.

I think that MFT could receive a big revival, not through hardware improvements but through advanced software.

Whether this comes from the MFT makers or 3rd party software doesn't really matter but if the manufacturers could sponsor the likes of Topaz to produce a special version that would be great!

  • Pen-F mk II with all the features of the OM1 and Pen-F
  • 10-50/2.8-4
  • 14/1.4
  • 45/1.4

not what I think will happen (not by a long shot) but what I want . . .

I’d wish for an OM-1 Mark III with a 25Megapixel sensor with a global electronic shutter

I’d like to see OMDS concentrate on getting bird ID AF and tracking to a level where it is the best in the business.

And to go with this camera I want a black 420mm f/4 prime lens with an in-built 1.4x teleconverter. This lens should weigh no more than 2.7Kg and it needs to have an optical formula which will deliver soft and smooth out of focus backgrounds - I don’t want sharpness at the expense of bokeh. An additional matched external 1.4x would also be nice

I’m putting AU$16,000 aside for this dream combo :-D

Firmware update for OM1 please.

To be honest I'm very happy about my setup - coming from an amateur perspective I haven't even really tried a FF setup myself.

One thing though which I think will be key in the future will be that slight jump on MPX we have been waiting forever to give us a bit more latitude in cropping. Unfortunately looks like the GH6 sensor isn't up to scratch for photo work so yes... a new sensor would be key.

I have the OM1 and absolutely love it but really 20mpx in 2023 was not a bold move at all.

In the long run this is what might kill M43, not dynamic range, not depth of field, just the feeling to be left behind in the technology race.

And I say that knowing 20mpx is enough for what I do. We need a high mpx sensor even if slower than what we have now to sell alongside the low mpx-fast line. Same as all the other manufacturers do with their "R" lines.

If Samsung can put a 100mpx tiny sensor in their phones I don't see why M43 can't apply some of that thinking, at a smaller scale, by upping our 1.4inch sensors to 24/26/30 mpx.

OMDS can't afford to pay Sony to develop a custom sensor, so they had to adapt a commercial offer for the OM1.

I tell you what's on my roadmap and hopes and dreams...

Hopefully, with a bit of luck, faith, trust and pixie dust, I might get a bit better and do more photography :D

Not asking much.

A black body EP7

(Not going to happen.. :-( )

My personal M43 road map is empty.

But that won't stop me buying whatever new thing comes out if its good :-)

As someone coming from a Sony A1 I absolutely love the compactness, sharpness and stabilisation of the OM1. Love hiking now with my system. Especially the OM1 which doesn't really does anything less than de A1 I am curious what the next iteration will bring in advancements.

I would love a 300mm F2.8 in the end, but that will be quite a bit bigger. So for now I am really happy with the 300F4 and just got an 150-400, but the weather is s$^&t at the moment. So can't wait for fall and winter.

The choice now is really good in the m43 system, from compact to fast glass. So I am happy at the moment. One thing would be a bit more resolution for cropping afterwards. So a bump to 30mpx would be great - but also maybe unrealistic.

I'm pretty good on lenses, a ~10 F1.2 would be nice but mostly I just want the AF on the bodies to improve a bit especially with tracking. And I'll take every 1/3 of a stop of improvement they can get for high ISO.

I a looking forward to the G9 II, rumor (on 43rumors.com) says to be introduced at IFA in Berlin, Sept 1 -- Sept 5. Rumor says it will have PDAF. I can hardly wait!

I think the one thing I’d most like to see is weatherproof versions of the 12mm f2 and 17mm, 25mm, 45mm and 75mm f1.8 primes. Apart from that I’m pretty happy with the system.

M43 continues to deliver high quality and enjoyable tools that make me want to get out and photograph the world around me. The feature set is unmatched with new surprises added with each generation. If I had a wish list lens it would be a 14mm F1.2.

I'd like an updated PL 100-400mm with the ability to take native TC's
This. And one with a smooth zoom ring! I love the results the lens give me, just not using it.

Also looking forward to see what the G9ii brings, love the feel of that camera in my hands but due to it's age it's lacking some of the features I'm growing accustomed to (see OM-1)

Are you trying to be facetious/sarcastic, or do you really mean this? My positive reply is that I'm positive this part of your post is ambiguous.

Yeah, you, NowHearThis, John Bean, and I all have had difficulty with this statement by the O.P. It might have been more clear if he had put "ruined" in quotes, or said "allegedly ruined" to convey that he was using the word sarcastically, and his "awesome hiking shots" weren't truly ruined by use of his first-class MFT gear.

Now I'm struggling to determine whether that same confusing and vague wording by the O.P. is the "stupid comment" referenced in his subject line! :-D
