Sorry to start another thread on the subject. But after many years of waiting for RX100 VIII, I decided to just buy the RX100 VII. I go to Sony's website and noticed the VI and VII are out of stock, along with many accessories. The RX100 V is still in stock, however.

Asking those who follow the site and VIII saga more closely than I do... does this mean the VIII is around the corner? Or do these out-of-stocks fluctuate on the VII etc.?

I don't know if you are in the States or not, but B&H has them in stock and they have a couple of used ones also. Best Buy has them in stock also. I have not checked any other vendors. you might look at Amazon also.

I seriously doubt a new version is about to come out. Most camera manufacturers seem to be concentrating on full frame cameras these days. I think the cell phone cameras are making a dent in the small camera market and the manufacturers are aiming for the largest profit areas.

Basically compact cameras are dead so the makers who maybe can see that if they make a batch and they may sell then they will fire up production again, not sure what it will do to future prices though.

Forget about waiting for the legendary M8. Anyway, what the heck is wrong with the M7 that needs an update to M8? In my case the year earlier M6 suits me fine for everything I do and even the M7 would be overkill for me.

Recently in Australia I was digging around to find prices on the M7 and sure enough at Sony and at a bunch of stores it was always "out of stock". One helpful store noted that stock will be returned on 4th September. so there's hope yet that another batch is in production right now.

Ooops, today it has slipped to 8th September.....

The AU$1699 price does include the 10% tax and that total equals about US$1130 tax paid. I see at BandH today the price is US$1298 plus tax and is in stock(?). Sony US has it at US$1399.99 plus tax and listed as "out of stock".

Yes, the development of the RX100 line came to an end in 2019, but Sony continues to produce occasional batches of those models that still sell, the M7 and (probably) the M5A. I suppose this will continue until key components become unavailable or sales drop too far for any more production batches to be viable.

As a stills shooter, if my M6 died or was lost, I'd prefer to replace it with another M6, but might have no choice but to get an M7.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera Accessory Kit B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

However, it is back-ordered at Adorama.

It's more likely that the opposite is true: no more new RX100 models, ever.
Sadly, yes.

At most, there might just be a ZV vlogger version of the M7, with no EVF, no flash, no front ring, no mode dial and a simplified video-oriented menu revamp.

I checked several sources and the 100VI doesn't seem to be available new in the US anymore.

Certainly not with updated hardware. Possibly an A version with updated firmware at the same price.

An 'A' version would have small hardware changes, as well as updated firmware. It would very likely have USB-C, and possibly some obsolete components replaced by newer versions.

For example, two A7R models got updated A versions where the only visible change was a higher resolution rear flip screen, presumably because the original component had gone out of production. The USB-C port was also upgraded to 3.2. Of course, there might have been additional updated internal components which Sony chose not to mention.

End of RX100 series? Selling off existing stock, then done?

No, as stated in the thread, Sony periodically makes new batches of those models that still sell. So they regularly go out of of stock for a while, then return when the new batch hits the shelves. Sony has done this with all the RX100 models over the years, but it now seems that only the M7, and perhaps the M5A, get produced.

M6 and M5A long gone from Australia and now M7 coming back in September. RX10M4 seems to be in stock after being out for quite a while.

Today in Oz under RX cameras only the RX10M4 "available to order" and RX100M7 "notify when back in stock" appear on the Sony Oz shop pages. No other RX appear at all, they are gone from our shores.

Yes, it seems to be the same everywhere, including the grey importers. Currently, it looks like only the M7 is produced, and only when inventory gets very low.

Maybe I should buy a spare M7 before production finishes for good? My M6 still works perfectly, but is looking a bit worn and battered. It's my most-used camera, simply because of its sheer convenience.

My thoughts as well, get a spare M7 to replace my M6 when it decides to get unreliable. As my age increases I seem to like carrying less and less so my M4/3 gear rests more while my M6 (bought late 2018) gets more of a workout. Still looks like new though as I keep it in a padded pouch.

As my M6 is a "backup" to my M4/3 gear it is sitting on 5888 file number today so it is little used compared to my wife's M6 which is sitting on 386 meaning that it has flipped over 9999 so is really about 10386 for her. Her M6 looks cleaner than mine.

Do we need to gamble that this coming September batch of M7 may be the very last batch made?

Mine gets battered when it's hanging from the neckstrap, often along with other things that are swinging on their own neckstraps, and sometimes collide. A full-frame or APS-C body 'wins' in such collisions!

I hope not, but I suppose that each batch made may prove to be the last, if it's slow to sell out. Sony's decision to keep making new batches is purely economic, not sentimental or brand-building. The RX cameras are unloved orphans, kept alive only so long as they pay their way.

I have trips coming up to places as separated as the North Cape and Cape Horn, so I do want a reliable RX100M6/7.

I decided that I wanted an RX100 VII to complement my full frame cameras and so put in a very low offer on GreenToe.com, which is where I buy the majority of my camera equipment. Usually I get a counteroffer immediately with a really good price that is much lower than MSRP. For the RX100 VII I got zero counteroffers, which made me think that no one that GreenToe does business with had them in stock. When my offer expired I went to put in a more reasonable price, and they said that they were no longer taking offers for the item.

Instead, I went to B&H which had them in stock and it was delivered 2 days later. Paying "full price" is annoying as I'm used to getting good deals from GreenToe, but ultimately I'm happy to have the camera. I used it on a trip this weekend and am blown away by how good the image quality is compared to my smartphone.

Off-topic perhaps but we had a great trip to North Cape exactly ten years ago. We were there at the end of May so got the full midnight sun - very, very weird. Almost the last outing for my Nikon gear before I bought an RX10 later in the year.

So it appears only the 10IV and 100VII are still in production. The fact that they sell out shows that people are still buying them although in unknown quantities.

I had never heard of GreenToe so I had to look it up. I suspect they get products that aren't selling well from retailers trying to unload excess stock. That actually is good news for the RX100VII sales.
