Dear all,

I have a Fuji GFX100 with multiple lenses and love the quality of the pictures. I've also tried the Canon R5 with some of their good RF lenses (15-35 2.8, 28-70 2.0, 70-200 2.8)

Although I find it fantastic gear when going on dedicated "trips" for photography, I do often find it too inconvenient to take this large gear with me on city trips or general walk around. I often just leave my gear at home and take snaps with my iPhone.

Curious if other have similar experiences? I wonder if I'd buy a Leica Q3 or maybe M11 I just can take that camera with me outside of dedicated photography sessions.

Having only 1 or maybe 2 lenses with me forces me to be more creative and walk more than having multiple zoom lenses in my bag.

Has anyone compared the pictures of GFX100 / Canon R5 with the Leica Q3 / Leica M11 and used those systems side by side?

Would be curious to hear your experience with the Leica compared to Fuji/Canon and perhaps even elaborate on the AF (Q3) vs MF (M11).

Many thanks for your feedback

Kim

A Leica Q system is a great GFX accessory. I have a Q2M. Greg has a Q2. My only major complaint about the Q is that the lenses are shorter than what I'd like. I'd prefer a 35mm lens.

Here's a Q2M GFX 100 comparison:

I find the M11 with 24, 35, and 75 a very nice and lightweight travel set. The IQ is amazing. Note that M11 does not have IBIS, so you should shoot with 1/(2f) (depending on the photographer).

The tiltable Visoflex allows shooting from very low, and Leica Perspective Control (LPC) allows getting the desired perspective in the frame.

LPC is available in Q3 as well. Q3 has OIS, which should allow shooting at least at 1/15 sec.

You are not alone.

However, be reminded that should you buy Leica, you may find yourself again carrying your IPhone everywhere leaving your bulkier cameras at home.

I have a Ricoh GR3 in my photographic drawer, that for several years I used to use as a second camera for walk around, but when mobiles phone cameras became good enough, the Ricoh regularly stayed at home. Its been months the last time I used it.

So I am now considering to sell it even though it still makes better images than my Samsung phone. Like it or not mobile phones have become too practical and you are carrying them anyway.

he, like me, is awaiting his backordered Q3.

My opinion responding to your query: yes, perfect lightweight travel companion to GFX if you're good with (almost) 28mm lens. Some prefer 35mm, but having shot extensively with the Q and Q2, I find that length versatile, not to mention more mp's means better crops.

I just noticed B&H has a couple used and open box Q2. :)

Someone needs to jump on these be4 I have monent of weakness. :)

I recommend Ricoh GR3x over M11, since you can adapt to the image quality of iPhone. M11 is still too large compared to a pocket camera.

It is actually quite common I think, to have a Leica Q2 as a companion to GFX 100/S. I have seen many photographers with these two cameras and they are quite happy. Q2 delivers nice results, I'm sure Q3 will do better.

I wonder, if anyone uses a Sony RX1R II along with a GFX 100/S?

Thanks for the link, very interesting!

What I ask myself is what the difference would look like with a monochrome conversion on the GFX 100.

Does choosing monochrome conversion affect demosaic algorythms or just removes saturation?

It would be better than the Q2M.

For best results, don’t demosaic the monochrome image at all.

I have a 100s with several lenses and was looking for a light weight travel option. I considered the Q2 (heavily), but was concerned about the single lens being too limiting. I opted for the XT5, which can be used with a small prime or assortment of other nicer zooms and primes (more versatile and has same battery as 100s). The Q3 with 60mpxs is very tempting, but ultimately same issue for me.

I find the XT5 image quality to be very good, but well short of the 100s. Not sure how it compares to the Q2/Q3, but suspect that it will hold its own.

good luck in your decision.

Hi,

Resolution follow megapixels while signal/noise depends on sensor surface.

The 100S has a much larger sensor so there will be less noise at 'same exposure'.

The XT5 has a new generation sensor, probably from Sony, and it also has X-trans.

The lens can be a major component in image quality. All lenses are not created equal.

So, it is a complex issue.

I'm unclear on how this discussion is going. Comparing image quality of the Q3 to the 100s, the 100s wins. The original discussion was whether the Q3 is a good travel companion to the 100s, I assume for times when the convenience of whipping it out rather than dealing with the 100s, what lens to use and perhaps putting it on a tripod.

yup 35mm is a more preferred focal length compared to the 28mm which from what i read online is closer to 24mm.

I have the RX1R and plan on upgrading to the RX1RII. Much prefer the 35mm FL compared to the 28mm.

Here is one comparison of Rx1rII vs. Q2, but I would think that one should consider Q3 instead of Q2.

I dislike the pop-up EVF on RX100 and assume that the pop-up EVF of RX1rII would irritate me as well.
