14-24 2.8S

No: f9 is grayed out. The 24-70 2.8 S does allow it.

Thank you. I wonder how MF is with this 14-24, on starlight.
Focusing on stars? No issues that I would have noticed, works fine for me.
Do you use Zoom plus manual focus?
That's what I always advise for critical work, but starlight view can actually focus on a big star from what I have read. I will test this soon as to how well and accurate that works. IMO Nikon bodies are better than canon in that they have a much higher zoom magnification on the LCD - allowing astro shooters to really nail focus.

Do you mean using AF when in Starlight view, using pinpoint + zoom perhaps? That would be game changing and take any guesswork out of manually focusing on the stars. Yes, please keep us updated on what you find!

For astro, you want to use the LCD, zoom to the maximum setting, it's usually 15 times on a nikon body or there abouts, then attempt to achieve critical focus. You can use AF as I believe the Z8 will be able to focus but I'd rather use manual to absolutely be sure it's nailed. Amazing though, that it can focus on a star. DSLRs cannot do that for sure. And if they can, it's in no way very accurate.

It's quite bright here at the moment at night (no darkness) but it is dark enough to test this stuff so I will be doing that soon. I'll let you know how it goes.
