This is the best lens I have ever owned or used. How's that for an opener? OK, it's a little on the heavy side for a normal fast prime— but only a little.

I've been using this lens for action shots in very dark environs and on an a7Rv. The focus is fast, silent, and accurate— even if the focus point is at the edge or corner of the frame (and this is at f/1.2!).

The bokeh is fantastic! To a degree, that is expected with such a wide aperture, and this lens delivers.

Highly recommended.

The one with the focal length and aperture that match my subject and available light. I like all my lenses. I sold the ones I didn’t like.

Depending on when you ask, my answer could be my Panasonic 20/1.7, my Sony 28-60, or my Samyang 135/1.8.
That 20/1.7 is one of my all time favorite lenses, so was the 12-32.
For sharpness and portability, they're special.
Comparing the 50GM and the 2860 to this pair, I grabbed the 20 and the 50 most of the times because they were more fun.
These days, I'm favoring the 28-60 on my a7RIII. A fair whack bigger and heavier than the 12-32 on my GX9, but still plenty easy to carry in a pouch that's only slightly larger. The 28-60 is sorta the 12-32's big brother - relatively inexpensive, quite compact, not physically impressive, but sharper than one would expect. Both challenge some of their pricier brethren.

Samyang's 35/2.8 does the same job on my a7RIII as the 20/1.7 on my GX9.

I'm giving that one a pass because reviews indicate it's not as good as the 35/2.8 and my 24/1.8 is already pretty small and light. I have the 35/2.8 and 75/1.8 because my 35/1.4 and 85/1.4 are just more weight than I want to lug on long walks. The 18/2.8, 35/2.8 and 75/1.8 make a fantastic 3-prime kit that weighs next to nothing. And, Crop Mode gives me 27mm, 52mm and 112mm focal lengths with plenty-usable 18MP RAWs.

For the first year, I used the 18mm only for event venue shots. I've never been partial to focal lengths shorter than 21mm for my walkabout scenic work. But, the ability to use the 18mm at 27mm as well has recently made the lens seem much more versatile to me, and I find myself using it more in my personal, as well as event, work.

When I got my A7C it was suggested to get the 20/1.8 and the 85/1.8 to compliment the 2860 kit lens. I also bought the Samyang 18/1.8 35/2.8 and 75/1.8. I sent all the Sammys back, but I really missed the 18 and 75, and prefered the 75 over the Sony 85. After getting the 50GM I never really use the 85, and for some reason I seem to get along better with the 18mm than sony 20.

I am most likely selling the Sony 20 and 85 for the 2070/4. But those sammy lenses are why I dont reccommend the Sony 1.8. Either by the GM level glass or buy the Sammy glass...

That 75 really is easy to carry. I have a Tenba P211 slim satchel that's my all-primes walkabout bag, with the 18/2.8, 24/1.8, 35/2.8, 45/1.8 and 75/1.8. For those times when I want to shoot foreground rather than distant scenics on my walks. This kit really isn't a burden to carry all day.
After getting the 50GM I never really use the 85, and for some reason I seem to get along better with the 18mm than sony 20.
Huh. Never had the 20. Seems sharp in the middle but a bit soft around the edges. Dunno what happens when you stop it down. The 18 is good at the edges at f5.6 & f8, which is really all I need from it.

I had the Sony 35/1.8 and 85/1.8 and liked them. Small-ish, well-built, sharp. The 35 was a bit pricey, but, whatever. But, after a while I started hankering for something even brighter, as I'm often doing event work at ISO 25,600. So, I decided to accept the added size and weight of f1.4 primes, and when I saw the Samyang 35/1.4 and 85/1.4 going for $500 around Black Friday, I jumped on 'em and sold the Sonys, knowing I'd use them almost exclusively for event work - where size and weight don't matter much - and would do my walkabout scenic work mostly with zooms.

I have a pretty bifurcated kit, with bright primes for event work and mostly not-bright zooms for long walks and short trips.

Interesting points. The best lens I have ever owned, or used, is the Sony 50/1.2GM.
