Casting my vote for an update... However, I wonder even for the RX-100 with the advancement of the smart phone and the continued development of mirrorless it starts to get questionable perhaps.

BUT, I still have occasions I want more than a iPhone pro and these type of P&S I still want to use...

Any idea when the RX10V will be coming?

Six months after the last person asks when it's coming.

As I've often said here (and didn't think I'd be able to say again!), next year. Ironically, I think it's the only RX camera that will get a Bionz XR upgrade, but it's behind about four remaining E-mount cameras in the queue. I think it'll come after a pair of new APS-C bodies, that will follow the last couple of FF bodies.

I’m going to say it isn’t coming

I think shrinking camera market size, obsession with sensor size and rise of the phone mean it’s not worth developing. Because the small improvements won’t justify the price.

We might see a super zoom but in a different way. Maybe an 80mp apsc sensor and a 18-200 lens with an effective digital zoom. Or clip to hold your phone as the rear screen with aps-c link to the camera

Yes, it is a bit iffy to see new P&S cameras.

The RX10 isn't really a P&S. There won't be an all-new model, but an M5 next year seems quite likely.

Where would that come from? Even Sony's full-frame cameras only get up to 60mp. Nobody does an APS-C camera with more than 40mp, and most are about 24mp.
and a 18-200 lens with an effective digital zoom.
It would be either very slow or very bulky. And it would be a big step backwards from the current lens.
Or clip to hold your phone as the rear screen with aps-c link to the camera
APS-C link? What's that?

My hunch is more total light gathering at the wide end. Similar mid zoom less at full zoom
Or clip to hold your phone as the rear screen with aps-c link to the camera
APS-C link? What's that?
auto correct, sorry, usb-c

Why? It would have tiny pixels, with really poor low light performance and a terrible dynamic range.

But not as wide at the wide end.

Similar ideas were tried and soon abandoned by Sony and DxO about a decade ago. That project bankrupted DxO, and nobody will be foolish enough to repeat it.

So, forget all these wild ideas that don't comply with the rules of physics and economics. If there is an RX10M5 it will have:
  • the same form factor as the M4
  • the same lens as the M4
  • a newer version of the 20mp 1" sensor
  • the new Bionz XR, together with all-new electronics
  • a full touch-screen UI, and Sony's latest AF tech
  • USB-C
  • maybe the Z battery and a high speed UHS-II card.
I expect it in the summer of 2024.

I always said that the mk5 will be announced a few days after I purchase the mk4 (presently still happy with the mk1). I was planning to buy the mk4 next week, and guess what: In all of the large shops here in the Netherlands it is "temporarily sold out" or "out of stock" (after a price reduction from € 1699,- to € 1499,-).....

we will see...

Probably just waiting for the next batch of M4s to be delivered. They seem to be manufactured in small batches, when stocks run out.

Expect the M5 a few months after the E-mount APS-C Bionz XR bodies arrive.

Indeed most likely

I am not going the wait. I agree with you that the lens will be the same and I don't expect much improvement of the 1" sensor regarding image quality for stills. Most changes will probably - like you said - upgrade to the latest AF (tracking) features.

My RX10 EXIF defines it as a Point and Shoot under Camera Type heading on Flickr.

I think Flickr defines all fixed lens cameras that way. That still doesn't make it a P&S.

Would you say that an RX1Rii is a P&S? Flickr thinks it is.

Come to Germany, it is still sold around here.

Or from the large river?
Last Saturday I received the message that it mk4 is back on stock; Tomorrow I will pick it up; I am very excited, like always when I buy a new camera.

Back in the 1970's I used to go at Photo Koch, Schadowstrasse in Düsseldorf where I bought my Nikkormat FTN..

Yeah, Foto Koch is still in business, bought some of my stuff there as well.

Enjoy your new tool! 📷 😀

Try to get a copy of Alexander White's guide book, it is very useful.

I am another fool then which is expecting an APS-C sensor in this camera someday, maybe not as a RX10 Mk5 (to keep the superzoom concept) but as an RX20.

I would happily trade the 600mm reach by a more modest in reach Zeiss one (somewhere between 24-135mm and 24-200mm) with a nice 2.8 constant max aperture.

I would sell without any hesitation my RX10 Mk4 and Ricoh GR3x to buy such camera.

Expect what you like, but it will never come. And, btw, an RX20 in Sony-land would have a lower spec than an RX10. Higher numbered RX cameras are cheaper than lower numbered cameras.

See my reply to you in the other thread. You can buy an APS-C body with 24-83mm equiv f/2.8 lens today. It will cost you much more than an RX10M4.

But I'm curious why you ask for a 'Zeiss' branded Sony lens when there are better Sony G lenses available? Sony doesn't use the Zeiss brand on premium products any more.
