I listed two threads where DPR Shutdown can be discussed.

However, I am opening this thread for the Cybershot Community to discuss the shutdown, talk about options and sadly...say some goodbyes. When this thread fills, I will open another one. However, any other thread opened about the shutdown I will lock or delete.

I am going to miss you all. I've said it before but I will say it again...this forum has some of the best photographers. I have been blessed to have seen your photos and shared in some of your life stories these past years.

Having been a forum member for over 22 years, I'm deeply saddened to see the end of DPReview. Coming here has been a part of my life for many years and the sense of loss is very deep. I'll miss you all.

Wow! I read that announcement with extreme sadness. I have been an ardent member since 2011, and apparently made almost 14,000 posts.

This platform has been a great source of advice and knowledge. I hope something can show up to replace it. Where else can new users learn about their cameras or techniques?

I thank all those who have answered questions, offered advice and guidance. DPReview will be sorely missed.

If this were 1 April, I'd call the notice a cruel joke.

The simple question is: is there someplace where the conversation can, at least in some measure, be continued?

I'm not a fan of Facebook and "social media", in general,. That said, I hope some alternative for Sony Cybershot comes to mind.

Thanks Randy

I sure hope someone comes up with a replacement!!!!

I joined in 2002 and have posted over 50,000 posts

What ever happens I will miss the forum and everybody in it! :-(

This is the second bummer for me. 1st was when my wife died in 2007 from a brain tumor after 36 years of marriage! :-(

You mean I am going to have to go out and take photos and shoot videos instead of obsessing about gear on the various forums?

Just kidding - I have learned a lot on numerous forums on DPREVIEW that have improved my photography and video skills, and I hopefully occasionally helped others. There is a tremendous amount of useful information in the forums. Even if they are locked, it would be nice if they are archived in some way for the foreseeable future so that we can still look at them.

Sorry to see DPREVIEW go, and ironically, I first learned about it on a Sony Rumors site! I thought at first it was an April Fools joke.

Thanks for the employees and volunteers/moderators who kept these forums useful.

Inked Marie, a DPR member, started a Facebook page called “Friends of DP Review”, if anyone is interested.

To repeat my post entitled Networking:

It might be useful for us to share our email addresses to facilitate staying in touch and hopefully announcing a new forum site.

Goodbye to all of you! I will miss this global community! 🖖

Sad news indeed. I’ve only been a member for a few years but it’s been a great experience. A visit to this forum and sometimes one or two others at DPReview has been an almost daily part of my life when near a computer or iPad. I’ve learned so much, enjoyed reading threads (occasionally very ‘lively’), marvelled at many wonderful photos, and feel I’ve got to know some folks almost as old friends. Thank you to everyone.

PS. An added blow is the fact that I have retained links to many threads which I thought could be useful in the future. Shortly all to be gone :(

This so sad, for us members of the Cybershot (and other) forums of DPR but of course also for the staff of DPR. I enjoyed and took part of the various discussion threads, learned so much, and it feels like a big family.

I also enjoyed and learned much of the reviews and video's. But for these there are alternatives, although nothing like DPR!

I really hope that the forums on some kind a way can be continued and that we meet again in a new digital environment.

Thank you all for so many good moments!

Be careful posting email addresses in text, the web-bot trawlers gather them up and add to your spam mail.

On my web pages I post it as a jpeg image, like this

Less likely to get trawled by bots.

Sad to see a good forum go down the drain, but in this profit orientated world of the Internet it was inevitable.

My post count in 20 years at DPR is currently close to 40,000 - a bit more effort and rambling and I can hit that target soon.

Thanks to all the regulars (and irregulars) on this forum, I have learned a lot.

I was a newcomer here in early 2019, Sony being a strange different world after my usual diet of M4/3 and mostly Casio compacts.

It's been a while since I posted here but I wanted to jump on and say I am very sad to learn of the site's closure and I wish you all the best.

Same disarray in M4/3 forum... But there are a number of good, clear options for migration of M4/3 users.
One place is:
https://cameraderie.org/forums/
which covers all the Brands and has an active SONY forum - but not specific to Cybershot... yet...
For those interested, it may be worthwhile to pursue creating a 'Sub-forum' for Cybershot users.
...just sayin...
or just dive in with clearly marked 'Cybershot' threads, suffer with the extraneous FF and APS-C threads alongside, and then keep pestering for a sub-forum... ;-)
Thx
Yuri

Bill, you're one of the good ones. Remember that when everything starts going belly up.

So many posts in only 4 years? Must be a record. Someone give this man a prize! Not that Jeff cares about any of that, he needs money to feed his starving family.

No, no, read more carefully, it's near 40,000 posts in 20 years. I added some bolded text to make it clearer.

I made web pages about all my camera gear at times but never got around to making any for the RX100M6, I might yet do it as it's an easy way to store some findings for my own retrieval purposes.

One thing that I wanted to do was map out distortion vs focal length to get a better idea of where to avoid or where to be when resolution is more critical. All I know so far is that around "50mm" is best for closeups and also least distortion for the RX100M6/7 models.

This is a damned shame. This forum has been a great source of information. I learned how to better use my cameras here, and now it's about to be gone. Heartless and soulless.
