In order to prevent a dozen similar threads, this thread will act as the thread to discuss DPR closing its doors in the context of the Nikon Z system. Other threads will be locked. General thoughts also welcome, but hopefully community members can discuss other forum options moving forward.

Wow! This is really sad news. I've been coming to dpreview since 2005 and learned much about photography and videography from these forums and the members. I am eternally grateful to all those who helped me, esp. when I was starting out. I visit here many times per day to catch up on all things photography/video related. This is shocking and sad to hear. Thanks again to all of you for your kind and generous support! :-(

Long time member. Bummed to hear the news. First order of business if to find another forum or two. Members here have any suggestions?
It sad, and I don't know that there is any forum that can replace DPReview, but my next best would be Nikonians.

https://www.nikonians.org/

Hope to see some friendly faces there or I will be missing many of you from here.

Oh, there's also The Ugly Hedgehog, but I rarely check in there. Still, it's a place to go.

DPReview closing is akin to a favorite gathering spot closing, like a neighborhood saloon, or restaurant.

Things change.

this is bad in many ways, but the wife says it may be the only thing to keep me from buying new equipment.

Not sure I am too excited about any of these.

There are already some well established Nikon and Nikon Z subreddits (forums) on Reddit. In my opinion, it is the participants that make DP Review special, not the host or forum software. Hopefully most of us can gather at a new hangout.

I've learned so much over the years from my fellow photographers on DP Review. The loss of the information and history in these forums will be a tragedy.

This is incredibly unfortunate. To me, unpaid and honest opinions on products and techniques are invaluable, and this site was probably the best resource to connect and share all of that. Sharing not just for fellow Z users, but compare across brands as well.

I don't know of another platform like this, and that's unfortunate as well. This was a one of a kind place to gather as much information and as many resources as it did. I'm hoping this will be able to live on is some capacity, and be brand and sponsor neutral as this is.

Lastly, how else am I supposed to know what the Z8 is going to be?!?! /S :-D;-):-P

Thanks, Alan. Yes, this will be a tough one to replace. Have learned a lot and made many friends and acquaintances here. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably see you NIkonians.

What I find shocking is that Amazon apparently has no plan to try to sell the site (and site content) to any buyer or keep the content available (but static) which is probably an infinitesimally small cost to them.

This is such a slap in the face that I am seriously considering boycotting Amazon from now on.

Agreed! :-(

I can not believe that dpreview is closing the forums. But there are alternatives out there.

Let's start a new one. I found good choices which we could support and make it like a "rebirth"

My most preferrred choices for forum similar like dpreview is:

https://camera-info.com

If I look for a Nikon-only community I will support this:

Nikoncommunity.com

and in German:

Nikoncommunity.de

I would love to see more of you in both forums, in case you like the software/functionality of these forums and would be interested to start there a really cool new community with other old members.

It is all free there. Enjoy it.

To be fair, I'm almost there anyway. Might as well go all the way soon. The stuff for sale anymore is such cheap brandless garbage it's more work trying to troubleshoot it and later return it. It's made me use Best Buy and other box stores a lot more than I used to compared to the past decade.

Ugh. Terrible news. This forum is often the first place I go in the morning, and I come back repeatedly throughout the day. And the content at the site has been getting better. What a loss this will be.

The other forums I visit are

And

How is Amazon NOT making money off this site? This doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

RIP studio scene comparison tool, won't miss the forums, that's for sure.

I was always turned off a little by their aggressive push to upgrade to a paid membership.
But somehow the bills must get paid. We see with DPReview what happens when a site can't control its own course. I am a member of Nikoians at the base level (read free). I guess I will start hanging out there more and pay for a higher level of membership. Perhaps go to Back Country Gallery forums. I started with the Nikon forums in DPReview a while after getting my D70 (in what 2004 maybe, not sure of the exact year but around then). Thanks to the people in the forums I've learned a lot. I come to read most mornings or late at night when I can't sleep. I really enjoy the international flavor of this site. It will be hard to find someplace with the same feel.
