I am using a 16" M1 MBP and have downloaded both the Godox G3 Firmware Update app (G3FU) and the current V1N-_v1.6 firmware to the computer.

When I open the G3FU it cannot find the V1. I have tried it with the flash turned off and turned on. I have also tried with different USB-C cables.

What I get is the following

What am I doing wrong?

When I downloaded what it think is the correct installer it came as a .rar file. Opening the .rar file produced a .exe file, which is a Windows file. Where did you get an installer that runs on a Mac or did I download the wrong thing ?

I downloaded the wrong one.

Does it say "Compatible with macOS Catalina" ?

EDIT: Ok, I just ran it on Ventura and it appears to work fine.

I don't have a V1 to test, but basically I don't have a clue :(

The battery must be removed from any Godox device to be recognized by the computer when updating the firmware. For flash units, hit the test button after removing the battery to dump any residual charge.

That's a relief. Somebody who actually knows what he's talking about :)
To clarify, I should have written hold the test button down for two seconds.

It is covered in the PDF instructions that come with the G3 software.

Thanks! I will try that next. Much obliged.

What's the fun in that?!?!?!

The flash is question is the G Flashpoint Zoom Li-ON X R2 N (Flashpoint branded version of the V1N). I have tried updating the firmware using the Godox updater and also the Flashpoint updater utility.

I have tried with the battery in and the battery out, and with the flash switched o and switched off. I have also tried with different USB-C cables.

No luck so far.

I have written to Flashpoint support for advice.

This video might be helpful, though it is just illustrating without any explanation.

Note that after the battery is removed that the flash is turned back on and and the test button is held down. This was a key issue when I updated the firmware on my AD200 Pro.

I had trouble updating Westcott strobes. I updated the Mac OS to Venture 13.2.1, the strobe was recognized and the update worked.

Just a thought.

I called Adorama and spoke with a Flashpoint technical service advisor. the bottom line is that for everyone who isn't using a newer fuji X series camera, v 1.4 is fine and there is no need to update the firmware.

This is actually not true. My transmitters require the battery to be in the unit to be able to communicate with the firmware updater (I tried it both ways), and I'm pretty sure a couple of my speedlights have done just fine with the batteries in.

I suspect think this only applies to Godox gear with a li-ion battery pack.

My guess is that G3 only lists Catalina as a supported version, and they may not have had the resources to update for Big Sur, Monterey, or Ventura. Given that Catalina/Big Sur is the dividing line between OS 10 and OS 11, and the processor switch from intel to ARM/M1 this could be non-trivial (e.g., porting from Objective-C to Swift).
