I have never seen any statistics of all medium format analog cameras so I looked at EBAY to get an idea:

Camera......Pages at ebay

Hasselblad............20

Bronica....................9

Zenza Bronica........8

Bronica 6x7............1

Bronica 6x6............4

Bronica 6X4½.........3

Pentax 6x7..............9

Pentax 67..............10

Pentax 645..............4

Pentax 645N...........3

Mamiya..................60

Fujifilm...................14

So what do you say...as expected or not?

More info from ebay:

Camera............Pages

Mamiya 6x4½.......16

Mamiya 6x9............2

Fujifilm 6x9.............4

Fujifilm 6x8.............1

Fujifilm 6x7.............1

Fujifilm 6x6.............1

Rolleiflex.................2

I'd say the following:

Firstly just looking on ebay, whilst I accept it's a large marketplace, is not necessarily representative of where owners might want to sell such gear. How about KEH, Japanese markets etc.

Secondly why do you separate out the various Zenza Bronica cameras and not the others. Please don't say due to different formats as that could equally be applied to Mamiya.

If you didn't it would read as follows:

Mamiya.............60

Zenza Bronica........25

Hasselblad.........20

Pentax..........19

Fuji.........14

EDIT: I wrote this before I saw your second post.

For comparison this is 3 months of Nikon *sold* on UK EBay - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66734517

Three months sold Pentax (35mm) - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66735515

In comparison there were 24 film Hasselblad’s sold in three months, 106 Bronicas
Some data for Bronica GS-1

Numbers of leaf shutters=numbers of lenses.

Far from Nidec Copal 100 000 shutters/year!

I apologize for being so dense, but I don't understand what you're measuring.

Is it 60 items/page or 120 or 240?

And when I put in Rolleiflex, I got 9 pages @ 240/page. Now, some of these are for parts (lens shades, etc). but most are the standard models.

So, what am I missing in these calculations? thanks!

You ask me I guess?

Ebay.com

Parts could be very interesting. The problem with for example KEH.com is you seldom get complete cameras

How many cameras have sold though ? that’s the interesting statistic - on UK eBay there’s 100 Hasselblad’s listed but only ~8 sell a month. It really needs to be in number of cameras, “pages” depends on your device (on a phone or tablet you don’t get pages).

Not sure what the relevance is of the Copal shutters ? That was wrt a new Pentax camera, for which the results were gathered. But yes, it was Copal focal plane shutters for 35mm SLRs, nothing to do with medium format.

You can dig very deep in this but I will not.

Interesting that they sell so many Bronicas in UK. They are seldom seen in Sweden even if they were low budget compared to Hasselblad. One other thing in Sweden: For Hasselblad you can still get some service. For Bronica most likely not....

On an Ebay search you can have 60/120 or 240 entries per page (you chose at the boyyom of the page)

The default is 60.

So what was asked was : did you have the 60 entry per page or 120 or 240 ?

If it is still not clear:

Hasselblad 20 pages (x 60/x 120/x 240 ?)

(BTW, I am sure I kow the answer but that was the question)

I got 9 pages of 240/page for Rolleiflex.

It'd be interesting if we could know for sure. But you can enter differently worded prompts into ebay and get entirely differently numbers.

When I just entered Rolleiflex white face f/3.5, I got 6; for Rolleiflex white face f/2.8 I got 10. But when I entered Rollieflex white face without specifying aperature, I got a combined 36.

The default for me is 48 (a 4K screen in Win 8.1). I can't see any alternatives!

Why is this so important?

Because number of pages is meaningless without the number of items per page. It’s like saying ‘my car is good on fuel because it gets 1000km to a tank’, without saying how big the tank is…

My question was about statistics for medium format cameras. Pages give us an idea about pro cameras. Mamiya was number one in numbers. Pages is good enough for this info. The complete picture we will never get with all medium format box and foldables mostly in low budget like Voigtländer, Kodak, Agfa (but some in high budget))

With system cameras though you could get an unusually high or low count - for example is a Hasselblad counted as if it’s just a body, or a body and film back, or only if it’s got a lens attached. if you’re just searching for Hasselblad in the film cameras section and not looking at what each one is then you might pick up finders or lens shades too. In which case this might slant towards the cameras with lots of accessories rather than just cameras themselves.

You also need to specify which eBay - different countries have their own localized eBay. I don’t think Sweden has its own so I’m guessing you mean US eBay ? I did a count for *sold* Mamiya’s on UK eBay and it was ~250, so two and a half times as many as Bronica. But Mamiya did MF cameras in many different areas - light rangefinders, big studio cameras, TLRs, etc so its a bit of comparing apples to oranges

I have given a link regarding Rolleiflex so you can see.

Anyone can dig deeper if they are interested enough!

Relleiflex is strange to me. I do remember all Roleiflex & Rolleicord back in -50 and -60. Are they all broken like 90% of them?
