Initially I had high hopes, then realised I was taking rubbish photos because the rear LCD was still on...

But you can't turn off live view. The R5 has the option to do this (option 6 in the screen info options), but the R6 does not.

If you want a blank screen you have to turn it off completely, so it won't even work when you flip it out, without changing the settings. Note, even though there is an 'info' button to cycle through screen options, you cannot use this button to turn on/off the rear screen.

Even the R6 II is lacking this simple feature, so neither the R6 nor R6 II will behave like a DSLR unless you make the camera harder to use. Such a shame.

Also, image review is rubbish for some reason. Never looks sharp. All in all, though it has great IBIS and I love the size and weight of it, I still prefer my 5D4.

I love optical viewfinders, so I'd try the R6II if it had the blank screen option. But since it doesn't, the only mirrorless that might work for me is the R3 with the OVF simulation feature, or the as-yet unavailable R5 II.

Strange set of points to advance in justifying an outlier rating. You could simply keep the screen folded closed. And why would you want a mirrorless camera to behave like a DSLR anyway?

Wow, so your "review" gives it 1 star b/c of one feature that doesn't work the way you want it to?

Wait, what???!!! You were taking rubbish photos because the rear LCD was on? This might be, no, it definitely is, the silliest thing posted on DPR this week (quite a high bar). Either you were using the rear LCD to compose, in which case it would have been difficult for you to know what you were shooting without it on, or you were using the EVF, in which case the rear LCD wasn’t on. Completely nonsensical.

Initially I had high hopes for my new Tesla, but then I realized I was driving like a maniac, crashing into things all over the place, because I couldn't set it up to start with a crank handle at the front, like my good old trusty Model T Ford. 1 star.

Yes.

Nonsense. Of course you can turn live view off, in at least 3 ways. I’ll leave it to @Goodmeme (nice username!) to work out how. Perhaps start by RTFM.

No need to dignify a good rant with an explanation…

This makes no sense at all. How on earth would the rear lcd being on make you produce rubbish photos?

Also, when you put the camera to your eye the rear lcd turns off unless you have it set to remain on always.

So you purchased a mirrorless camera and you're disappointed that it is different than a dslr?

Even if it had the blank screen option it still wouldn't have an optical viewfinder, same with the R3.

This is a strange post...

Certainly life is tough and full of unbearable suffering.

I gave my new Tesla 1 star because it didn't enjoy the premium oats that I always fed my horse....he enjoyed the oats...but not this ungrateful Tesla.

The first thing I do when setting up one of these 5-star mirrorless wonders is program the DOF Preview button to switch between EVF and LCD. No auto switching. Love this setup.

Not that it does not work the way the OP wants it to.

It is that it doesn’t work the way it should have in the first place!

A singel feature that doesn't work the way a user wants it to (saying "the way it should" is subjective) does not justify a 1-star review. It justifies a comment or complaint about a single feature, not trashing the entire camera.
