First picture was @ ISO 3200, I thought if that could be the factor, so I reduced and took at 800 but result is still prettymuch the same. :-x

I guess that 357mm and 1/2000 shutter speed did not provide enough light, impacting the image quality.

For a bird that is standing I would significantly reduce the shutter speed.

I see, I will try as you have suggested. However, I have not increased the exposure in post nor I have done any other changes. See the Histograms below:

Ask Mait,

Your settings are probably more suited to a much larger sensor camera. Small sensor superzooms call for a different mindset. I basically ignore the histogram.

Try this - shoot in P mode, FINE, Auto ISO400, standard picture control, sharpening to +4.

Alternatively, if you want good jpegs and don't need raw, try birdwatching mode.

Results from these two shooting modes will give you an idea of the settings required to get the best results quickly.
