Although I have an A7ii for general use I still use this old system as my dedicated long lens. The card eject has become jammed or something, so I just keep using the same card and download directly from camera. I'm thinking of moving to A6600 and LAEA5 adapter--but not sure it would be any improvement. Any ideas.

Well with a newest system you'll eliminate purple fringing mostly. You'll eventually win a bit of sharpness too but at such a distance I don't see it so important.

When I shoot surfers with my Minolta 70-210/4 what's annoying me the most are the purple fringing in the highlights of the sea waves. Thing that disappears with a Sony 70-400.

If the hood of the 70-210/4 had a hole I could use a cpl to diminish the purple fringing effect I think. But it's not the case unfortunately.

I've noticed that with my Beercan as well, but it sure is a great "flower" lens!

Indeed I experienced that too ;)

Well IMO you could try to get a second hand Tamron or Sony 70-300 usd from anywhere between 100 and 300 bucks if you have the budget. OTOH I agree that sometimes 400mm is very convenient.

I have the Tamron 70-300 FE mount and am thinking of a A6600 to go with it as coming close to my present system but with better focus than the old A68 with screw drive lens, at least until I can get a Tamron 150-500 to go with it. Would losing a little FL but a better system is kind of my decima--with the other half, keeping spouse happy with spending on my hobby. It also makes a lot lighter and more compact system to carry around.

Certainly a better system. Lighter and less bulky that is not sure anymore.
