“New” F mount camera

I’m not talking about Cosina - I know what it is now and it also looks like there’s at least one version with the DOF preview (which this is missing) but I don’t think that’s still available
Phenix made that camera ,with the same model name ,with and without the DOF button

the same for the many version sold under alol sorts ofr names, some are of the first type others of the second.

Some interesdting info here :https://cameracollector.proboards.com/thread/4480/phenix

from a guy that goes to work past one of the Phenix factories.

Interesting that he is speculating that the Phoenix (note spelling) versions could be made by both Phenix and Cosina but Seagull comes into it also:

The P300 is obviously a Seagull Chinese made camera (Seagull 300) :

but the P1 is a Cosina made version (Cosina C1)

Thanks for that - I’d seen the Anniversary model rangefinder, but thought it was for the anniversary of the company !

There is one with a DOF button and 1/4000s top shutter speed, e.g. http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Kenko_KF-2N which would be a FM2 competitor.

It’ll be interesting how this develops, are they new cameras and if so will other companies import them

No offence but I have already posted twice what it is and who makes it and where, so why still talking about Cosina ?
There is a huge misunderstanding. I posted it already twice, the Cosina chassis was being used for many, dozens of clones, but not the FX-3 series (Super, Super 2000). This was being made by Yashica, and later Kyocera, because Kyocera bought all Yashica assets into 1983.

And some of you folks don't think about this, or like being righter than right. No, the FX-3/FX-7 series was not being produced by Cosina.

FYI, even more onto this topic here

COSINA CT1 super* and Yashica FX-3 super 2000

(interesting to see here is a weird screw on the shutterspeed dial - i do own four (4) FX-3 Super 2000, one FX-3 Super, one FX-3, all have the same screw as into usual FX-3 series screenshots, not like this example of the FX-3 Super 2000 above via link)

All these clones are based onto the Cosina CT1 series, posted above, since decades. Incl. all that cheap chinese stuff. As you can see from the Shutterdial, it's not the diamond-shaped, 3-row design like onto the FX-3 & FX-7 series, this was exclusive for Yashica, not being made by Cosina. No idea, where nowadays those folks get their parts bin from, perhaps sold some leftovers, to produce cheap stuff like this Frankenstein Alta DC 60, which is clearly based onto the CT1 series from Cosina, and have been produced into different mounts, mostly Pentax K, Nikon F, or even M42 bajonet.

I’m now really confused. Was the FX-3 made by Phenix (not Cosina) as has been established the DN60 is ? Otherwise I’m not sure of the relevance ?

You might be interested in this quote :

Shin Yashuhara, who produced the Yasuhara T981 camera, in his book, "Yasuhara Works Retrospective", states "In the 1990s, when I left Kyocera, Japanese camera manufacturers moved most of their production bases overseas. Since the manufacture of cameras involves a lot of manual work, labor costs directly translate into manufacturing costs. Except for some high-end cameras, they were mostly made overseas. Kyocera was no exception, and in terms of production volume, the majority was manufactured in China". He also says that Japanese manufacturers would ensconse Japanese managers into the Chinese companies to oversee the manufacturing and to ensure the quality was as required.

By a strange coincidence(.....) the Yasuhara T981 was made by Phenix.

Thanks - and I see that the Phenix version was the basis for the 50 year anniversary special - https://www.cameraquest.com/yasuhara_phenix_jg50.htm !
More info here about the Yashica(Kyocera) -Phenix connection : https://www.t981.co.uk/history
So have read this correctly that Phenix made the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 ? And that they did an “inverse Nikon” to make a rangefinder out of an SLR rather like Nikon developed the F out of the SP ?

Yes and I strongly suspect that Shin Yashuhara having worked at Kyocera and then later on having designed a couple of cameras of his own might have had a bit better idea of what was going on (who made what cameras and where) than some, hence his choice to have his camera made by Phenix.
