***February 12, 2023 - February 18, 2023 Weekly Show, Tell, and Critique***

Bliss (and Nancy and I) thank all of you sincerely for the well-wishes. They worked!

Yeah, we were unlucky (this happened on my property where the dogs have run through the woods many thousands of times with no issues). This could have easily been fatal. It was the right decision to dig deep and pay the emergency vet. It does bug me how they get away with charging such outrageous prices - I'm sure people of lesser means watch their dogs die because they simply can't pay thousands of dollars for something that should cost hundreds. To be fair, the emergency vet did a great job with her. At the end of the day for me, this is what money is for - to provide for those you love - not to buy more "stuff".

Bliss is doing great this morning - seems to be 100% back to her normal energetic, happy, very talkative self - amazing after that major injury. The challenge now is going to be to keep her from running and jumping for two weeks.

Very true, Bill. What is money for, if not this?

Greg

Great memories! Thanks for posting, Bill.

Your post made me remember that I had an old pic somewhere of my daughter Erika and me fishing when she was little. We used to have a log cabin on Sherman's Creek in Perry County, PA, where I kept a little jonboat for fishing. No cellphones in those days - this would have been in the mid-70's

Here at the cabin when Erika was still a baby; and my late wife was pregnant with the late Colleen at the time. I was going to school then.

Here with Erika (and Nancy) at a recent Thanksgiving. She's 49 years old now. How does that happen?

Yesterday was Colleen's birthday. She would have been 47.

Nice memories Bill. I see you are holding his her line so he won't catch a fish bigger than yours.

Don
Actually I was holding the pole as it was too big for her!

Thanks for the kind reply Don

Welcome to the ST&C, Mr. Emerson! Yes, this thread was started some years ago to focus more on results (art, if you will) than only on gear, so non-Sony equipment is allowed. I do most of my photography with Sony cameras, during the upland seasons, but use Fuji quite a bit when I'm only doing photography and not trying to manage dogs in rugged country gun, etc. So, your Fuji images are welcome.

This thread has also developed a bit of a secondary purpose - for the participants here to get to know each other a bit, beyond just what gear we use.

That rafting looks like fun. I have never done it. I get all the "white water" (and more!) that I can handle when sailing off-shore in my small boat.

Greg
Thanks for the welcome.

For laughs and grins, I went back to some more stuff I shot with the X-S1. I wish I could blame the deficiencies on using JPEG instead of RAW format, but ...um... not quite.

I used PL6 to crop and mildly tweak the catboat, and the Sultana. The water below the bow of the Nellie Crockett, a Chesapeake Bay "buy boat", is heavily retouched, to remove a piling. It's amazing how well PL6handled the job!

I used Topaz AI Sharpen AI to add some crunch to the PL6 results. Even though it's not heavily cropped, the Sultana simply wouldn't really crispen as I'd hoped for.

Overall, while the X-S1 was easier to live with, compared to the DSC-RX10 Mk IV (particularly the menus), the results are disappointing when held next to the RX10.

White water? How about our (now former) Baba 35, One With The Wind, beating to windward (1st reef and the genny brought in to 110%) in the Exumas, Bahamas? The camera was a Fuji FinePix S8200 (me have a thing for bridge cameras? Really?). PL6 for better contrast and color tweaks, Sharpen AI for crunch.

These are great photos, Greg, and wonderful memories. Was Erika born in 1973? My sister would have been 50 this coming June. She was 47 when she died, born in 1973.

Chris was born in 1985 and Lissa in 1987. We were married in 1976. Col had a abortion in 1977. I did not want kids for a long time afraid it would change her affection for me till she finally changed my attitude! So glad she changed it.

I was born in 1986, so I’m in between them! My parents married in 1968. My mom already had a son from a teen pregnancy at 16, and dad had a daughter at 16 also. They had three children together, and two died in 2020. Mom will be 75 this year, and dad 74. My surviving siblings (brothers) are 58 and 47.
