Hi,

I'm starting thread, because i had some questions in private messages about S23 Ultra ang GCAM and how to make this phone to take great pictures. Not all GCAM libs give natural good looking output, so i use matteo library - new versions are always available here on Tech on Bermudas https://techinbermudas.com/matteo-gcam-configs-mi11u/

This method work with S23 Ultra and proably in 99% in S22 Ultra(SNAPDRAGON ONLY), so here we go

First we need go to this link and download GCAM

https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-shamim/f/dl28/

Package, which works with Samsung is named SGCAM_8.4.400.42.XXX_STABLE_V43_AWEME_PACKAGE.apk. After downloading GCAM, we download ZIP from this link

https://mega.nz/file/3ZoW3SjD#xHbucJ_FQmC-R0m4vAj6vQKWpkSaZuWjZSOSdiwUe6Q

It's archive with SGCAM directory, which must be copied(after unzip) to main memory in phone. If You open phone memory this directory must be there. After this we install GCAM from first link and run app. Then double tap on empty space between shutter button and preview of last taken photo and when new window appear - click S23 Ultran and load XML. In GCAM menu we should select HDR+E and enjoy taking photos.

If YOu have any question, please ask... :)

Example photo with GCAM, enjoy! :)

Thanks a lot! Can you post any comparison between stock camera and gcam? If possible in full resolution? Again thanks for your support and efforts!

Thank you this is really good to know.

How is that gcam compared to the ones listed in: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gcam-for-snapdragon-s22-ultra.4438887/

Any issues with the camera switching, noise, video, etc?
I don't know, sorry. I sent just simple config to start with gcam and get natural looking photos based on matteo lib, which is in my opinion the best. I saw some configs in telegram group, but many of them are not very natural - some looks like bit updated stock camera, matteo lib is very good, so i share here. I'm sure soon will be available much better configs for this phone.

There must be something wrong with my s23 ultra, because every versión i try immediately crash at opening

Do you know the possible reason?

Try tap and hold, then choose record video option or take selfie - when app will start You can load proper xml and app will not crash.

Exactly, thank you.

You must be very very quick to import the xml file

Thank you so much, please do post more.

Without pixel peeping, I have to say I like the Samsung stock cam better. It's more punchier. While GCAM looks a bit dull.

Yes, for social media it is great, but check thread title - "Samsung Galaxy S23 / S22 Ultra GCAM with natural processing" 🤷‍♂️You can use another library with more punchy colors and details are still there, also matteo said he is working on new lib with social media photo style and colors, but on this forum there is lot of people looking for good details and toned colors.

Hi, could you please share some outdoors samples from Expert Raw app at the highest resolution? Thanks in advance

I took just one photo in expertraw and it's crap and wasting of time, sorry ;) Check this thread - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4696416 - i've posted 50 mpix standard RAW files, which are nice.
Why is the expert raw bad? I just want to see some samples from it, would you mind to take some more? It uses the algorithm of night mode, so the quality should be much higher than single frames

Don't waste time on expert raw, especially in anything bellow 1/50 shutter speed/lowish light, in day it can pass i guess. but its garbage, denoised, and lacks of texture. Regular RAW 50MP is way better, and still has very nice HDR.

And if that's not enough, you got pretty good GCAM/xml port here in this thread, so don't worry about expert RAW until Samsung get it right.

Is super noisy with the zoom lenses in low light. Stock camera is much better (surprising night mode wit telephoto 10x)
No, stock camera is garbage. If You want less noise, just switch in lib patcher section from Matteo22 to Matteo18 and if You want even less noise increase number of frames in hdr frames number section. If You want super detailed photos in night You can use tripod, set number of frames to 50 and image will be detailed and noise free - much better than stock in night mode.

Night mode on stock is almost unbeatable, video also maybe motion cam can be better but as far as non RAW recording you can't beat stock. Now, in medium light and daylight gcam wins stock..

And lets not even mention stock main, its garbage vs GCAM

I don't suppose there's a way to adapt this for the Samsung Z Fold 4 is there? I tried the APK and XML for the S23 Ultra, the tele and ultrawide work but the main cam doesn't and I don't have a clue how to fix it.

I installed the gcam after unzipping and putting it into main directory, but the app crashes on opening. Every time :(
