Still fiddling around with my "new" D200, this time with my old 24/2.8 AiS.

Really enjoying it. Comments are welcome.

Just finding my way back to this friend of twelve years ago. It's less responsive in lots of ways than my D850, no surprise there. But that also simplifies things, and I'm getting used to that (again).

I'm pleasantly surprised by the almost film like quality of the b&w images the CCD sensor produces, and yes, by the colour as well.

LR Classic gives me a myriad of rendering possibilities to choose from; still stumbling around there.

The most pleasant surprise is that, either with the 35/1.8 AF-S DX (great little cheapo) or the 24/2.8 AiS (great lens) it feels so much closer in handling and using to my FM2n or FM3a.

Goodbye analog? That was my intention anyway; an alternative for analog cameras/processes in general use (the hassle and the cost), approaching film like quality.

Mission accomplished for just over 200 Eur for body and 35 DX?

I had the D200 many years ago, the B&W output of that CCD was among the best I ever got from any DSLR.

Very recently I myself bought a Fuji S5 Pro, the D200 body and essential hardware like AF, metering, etc. but with Fuji's own SuperCCD sensor. In it's time skin tones and dynamic range were class leading, and it was a firm favorite with wedding photographers. B&W output wasn't in the same league as the D200. And as for responsiveness, well, let's say the D200 beats it hands down anytime :) .

Greetings from a fellow Dutchy!

I can't make myself put my old D200 back in the old camera drawer again. It's staying in the active file this time.
I really like my D200. I keep it in Downtown Chicago at my office, so pretty much only use it in good light where it plays to it's strengths. I'm still learning a lot from shooting with it, and I'm pretty sure the camera isn't holding me back any at this point :)

Had picked up a second one because I came across it so very, very cheap and just checked and saw it only had 2,665 shutter clicks... That must have been one bored camera before I got it!

Nice photos! Are the B&W images straight out of camera or converted to B&W in lightroom?
Thank you! Shot RAW (I always do), converted to B&W in LrC.

I've actually just sold the D200 plus its three primes to get a D700 (again, after thirteen years).

So there's the end of that journey. Lovely camera though.

The D700 is a truly amazing camera! I sold mine and bought a Df which is also fantastic but I must say the colors from the D700 were more interesting.

Still fiddling around with my "new" D200, this time with my old 24/2.8 AiS.

Really enjoying it. Comments are welcome.

My pleasure! Normally I'm not all that fond of American classic imports, but "ll make an axception for this one!

For an American classic import, it does have a surprisingly Germanic outlook on life :-)

I know lol; but this was a German US export (hence the reflectors etc), reimported to the Netherlands (dry chassis etc). But I'm sure you knew all that ;-) .

P.s.: I probably should have said "Americanized" classic import...

D200 is by far my favorite camera of all. The only thing I hate about em is the rubber grip that peels of and stretches. Basically needs to be replaced every 2-3 years.

I own one with 25k run and I shoot with it all the time. I don't care how old it is it's just gorgeous. Also with modern AI upscaling tools the 10mp is not a problem anymore.

Hi Michiel,

After seeing some of the D200 thread , I bought a used D200 recently. Nice camera for a good price. So far I like the camera except once in a while I get "Err".

It's a capable camera for certain.

I used to get some kind of Err message on my D2h ... was coz the self-test shutter was detecting a problem. Had Nikon fix it for me. Might not be the error you have though.

Thanks for both of your for your input on "ERR" . If I press shutter and click once it goes away so not thinking of getting it fixed. I paid only $125 fro this camera and it has around 10K shutter clicks.

Thanks,

VadiV

Did you check the Non-CPU Lens Data values? I've had the same problem. Just had set both the Focal Length and Max. Aperture to "N/A" and it worked.

I checked the setting it is already set to N/A. Error goes away if press shutter as if I am shooting photo but the image was not captured.

Thanks for your input.
