looking to get into sony for video. used a7iii. I cant afford $100 for sony single bay charging. grip for stills but not needed for gimbal work.

but curious which brand doesnt bring up the prompt "this batteries operation isnt guaranteed" where you cant see remaining time

I use 3rd party batteries on my panasonic and nikon cameras including d780 d4s and gh5 without issues, including all other cameras ive used to date.

so curious what do you use?

I have a $60 Neewer battery grip for one of my three a7RIII bodies. Works great. I’m pretty sure it’d fit an a7III as well.

I use three Pearstone (now Watson) Duo chargers for six batteries at a time.

I have two RavPower batteries that work fine in my two a7RIIIs that have firmware v3.01 but kick up the warning in my third body that has FW v3.10. I also have 4 YXWIN batteries that work fine in all three bodies, but I use them only in the grip, because they’re a brand I haven’t bought before, they were cheap, and if they swell a bit they won’t get stuck.

do the watson charge fast enough?
Takes an hour or two to charge a fully depleted battery. Each Duo charges two batteries at once. I bought the first one retail, then the second two used for about $20 each.
are u using the cameras for stills or video?
Stills only.
so keep firmware under 3.1 and its ok.
Most new batteries are now compatible with FW 3.1. My two RavPower batteries are older, though.
can you downgrade fw if need be?
No.
and what grip do you use?
I described it above.
sorry for the tons of questions. thanks again

I think RavPower has stopped selling NP-FZ100 batteries.

3rd parties battery are mostly an issue for video not for photos

When you are at the end of the battery with an OEM battery you have a data and temperature terminal. The camera will always finish recording

With a 3rd party battery the recording will end abruptly and potentially lead to file corruption and loss of data

As a long term GH5 user I can tell you that 1 cause of clip corruption is using 3rd party batteries

If I may add battery grips are not a solution to prolonged autonomy for video. The best options are dummy batteries either through main power or powerbank

Battery grips only add 1 battery compared to the unlimited supply of the mains and at least 4 batteries you can squeeze out of a power bank

There will be several options depending on your camera battery you can look on amazon or more specialist stores

thanks for your feedback. never used one . so basically the dummy battery is slipped into the body, then you use a battery pack to run it? is it strong enough to power the camera? and how small can it be? I do want to use this on a gimbal

I wasnt sure about using the grip for video, but im geting the sony for wedding video as 3rd video guy, and try it out with stills and see how I like it. see how I like the colors from nikon. this will be hard to do because im not into raw and spending tons of time in post. im shooting mostly in jpeg and get it accurate in camera so post is minimal and quick. and for stills I definitely need a grip. the body is too small as is. thats another thing I need to get used to

On a gimbal is better to limit the weight and number of wires

Easier said than done I run a microphone and a monitor recorder you can of course power the camera with a dummy battery but more to carry and additional risk of entanglement

for the battery a quick visit to a specialist shop will show dtap or other power options that may help

There are also dummy batteries that take USB C in fact I have one myself this gives you the option of grid or powerbank supply or other larger batteries

This can be very difficult in wedding and event work, as you're typically moving quickly between various lighting situations. My Sonys do a good job with AWB, but I almost always end up tweaking WB on a bunch of my event photos to make them reasonably consistent. When asked, I deliver OOC JPEGs to my clients for immediate use, but I always insist on sending them finished JPEGs generated from processed RAWs a few days later so the final product they get from me is as good as it can be.
