Have you informed them the codes were initially from a gift card? Perhaps the rep you are working with now doesn't know the full story of what transpired back in 2018?

Yes, i told them. It is even fine if these coupon codes have expiration dates, but they never TOLD me. The email where I got the code from does not contain any information about an expiration date.

They are just giving me the "codes expired, can't help you, too bad so sorry" crap. Bet B&H wouldn't do this.

Few years ago I used some gift card balance to order stuff on Adorama, after some stuff (don't quite remember what happened), this customer service rep issued me a new set of coupon codes for my gift card balance.

I just remembered to use them this week and they don't work, and i emailed Adorama back and they said that the codes are expired, and they will not be able to issue me new ones?

What the heck? Gift cards are advertised as never expire, and when they gave me these "coupon codes" I was never informed that they would have an expiration date. And i showed them the email that I received containing these "coupon codes", nowhere on the email is an expiration date mentioned.

Now instead of just simply issuing me new gift card balance, they are pretty much robbing me of my money? I mean I always know B&H is a step above Adorama in customer service, but this is way way too much.

To mod: I am sorry if this is not the right forum but i didn't see any other more suitable ones. I am just extremely furious right now. Please move this elsewhere if it is inappropriate.
Seems like total lack of communication. I would call Adorama after the weekend and ask to speak with the CEO’s office. No company wants negative comments. You didn’t state the actual time line, a month to some might be ‘ages’ then again a year is certainly not long in certain terms.. Regards. L

I would forget about email exchanges and call them and talk to someone personally. Escalate higher if you don't get anywhere.

Have you asked to speak to a manager or someone higher up?

and that was exactly my point.

Sometime exceptions are made and it is possible that that is what had happened at the time.I think it is a bit rough posting that one was robbed if not remembering exactly what has happened and without having any chance for the other party to give their side of the story.

I've never heard the term "coupon code" being used as a monetary amount you could spend like cash.

Every coupon code I've ever dealt with is a discount percentage off a purchase.

I’m a bit confused. Gift card/certificates are different from coupon codes. Gift cards are a monetary amount. Coupon codes.....could be a monetary amount off or a percentage.

Which do you have?

I got a bit more clarification from someone claiming to be a supervisor.

There was a BOGO gift card event around Black Friday 2018. I pulled this from the internet.

46830278b79c4af4bd02c6aba9904ef9.jpg.png

I received 10% bonus value of the gift cards I purchased in the form of another gift card or "code" as they call it, and these "bonus" gift card or "codes" are the ones expiring.

However, and I replied back, the fact remains: 1) These are essentially the same as gift cards, therefore should not expire. 2) More importantly, the fact that these bonus "codes" would expire was never advertised or revealed to me.

There is a huge asterisk on that offer, any idea what the asterisk verbiage was?

That advertisement i certainly very scammy to me, that offer is not "buy one get one" it's "buy one get 1/10th"

How much bonus money are we talking about that you are out?

They need to hire a lawyer to write their ad copy. It's not if you purchase over $1000, it's if you purchase of $1000... it's not a gift card purchase of up to $100, $250, $500, $1,000, it's a gift card purchase of $100, $250, $500, $1,000. We will send you a gift card in the form of a coupon code, again almost childish in their wording, there is no gift card being sent... they are horrible at this.

According to that fine print, it is a coupon code for the amount of $10, $25, $50 or $100 with no mention of expiration. I hope the OP get's his "gift card" as he should.

Maybe the wording wasn't the best but it is clearly a conditional discount offer, one that the OP did not take up in time and not a Gift Voucher that was bought dollar for dollar as it was implied by the OP.
what you mean? I took the offer in time, i received the 10% bonus.

Nowhere does it say that the bonus gift cards would ever expire, especially when adorama gift cards are advertised as never expire.

Thank you. That has been my point all along. I was not never made aware of the fact that these bonus gift cards would behave differently than regular gift cards, which never expire.

The problem here is that you had forgotten how you got those BOGO coupons.

You did not buy them, they were a bonus discount attached to the gift card purchase.

However bonus discounts do have terms and conditions , clearly spelled out in the ads for that particular promotion.

That is the expiration of the offer to get the "BOGO" not the expiration of the resulting coupon code. It even says "offer" in the wording. "BOGO gift card offer expires on..."

Someone else already replied but I will re-iterate.

The event to get the bonus gift cards expires on 11/22/2018. I participated in the event before the deadline.

However, the problem is that, according to Adorama, these bonus gift cards expired in 2020, 2 years later. (if you would go back and read the emails Adorama sent me).

Now, do you see anywhere on the event promo that the bonus gift cards would expire in 2 years?

I was making the point that the OP did not buy a Gift Card he was given a discount coupon.

Yes the wording by Adorama could have been clearer however it was a gift not, as implied by the OP , a purchase.
