10% off OM-1 at Amazon US

This page now shows the $1,789.99 price again, but the fine print shows that the seller is Al Hamza from Hong Kong.
If you select other options you can get the same price from Amazon.com as the seller and fulfiller of the order. Just bought one.
Just saw the other posts and used "livestream" code right on Adorama site to get the camera plus extra battery for $1699. Used Adorama Edge Credit card for another 5% back so total was $1717. Almost $200 better than the already amazing Amazon price.

Whoa! What’s happening with OM-1 prices? I managed to order one from Adorama with the free battery using this promo. Less than Amazon’s best offer.
I am just getting into the system and am beginning to wonder if this is a fire sale before some more ominous news to come?
Three years ago B&H featured an end of year sale during which I bought a new G9 body for $847 USD. This for a camera that only started shipping fewer than two years earlier for $1700. However, since that late 2019 sale, I haven't seen the G9 offered for that price ever again.

Who knows what inventory or sales pressures a company is facing near the end of a year? Maybe a temporary price drop to move units?

Got one too, had to pinch myself to believe it's true... I thought $400+ off from Amazon couldn't be beat, and it's just Tuesday!
This deal is great, no less with a battery, however, almost unprecedented for a relatively new issue body. I doubt a new OM version in forthcoming soon so one can only imagine a dubious scenario. The demise of the PL200 & TC's ads to the mystery & drama. Who knows what's really going on?

I was on the fence in investing more into M43 and just today I wrote M43 obituary. That said, I just bought the OM-1 :-) Oh, the power of persuasion! Even if Panasonic & OM collapse, we all have a new heavily discounted OM-1. Is that good?
My theory is that the initial strong demand for the OM-1 faded away abruptly, and OM Systems ended up with a big inventory that was not moving.

I don't know where the livestream discount comes from but agree this is rather odd for a camera very few could get their hands on and now suddenly pretty nice price drop.

Hopefully good for both the seller and buyer and nothing too ominous on the seller side of things.

After the "preorder backorders" are filled, arguably everyone who really wanted the camera at its full price has it. So it's time for discounts, and OM gave modest $200. Strange to see some retailers go way over what should be a reasonable incentive. I'd call Amazon's $400+ very aggressive, and Adorama's $500+battery outright insane... but I'm not complaining! 😆

Moving inventory end of year is good for numbers to customers and the general public. Selling some units at a loss allows for end of year tax write offs for OMDS. If there are additional discounts from places like Amazon and Adorama (beyond the established $200 off that OMDS offered on so many items) that may be the reseller taking a "hit" in order to capture interest from customers or move what may be higher inventory or simply also to obtain the tax write off. Many, many moving parts and pieces for what might incentivize a company like OMDS or resellers to make these choices that have nothing to do with something insidious regarding the stability of the company.

Recall that SONY has, for years, offered sometimes insanely steep educational discounts and other discounts to all on their bodies and lenses. I purchased an A7RIV at 40% off through an extraordinary EDU discount at B&H, but I think was available for similar price elsewhere. At the time, people had similar forum discussions about "Is SONY in financial trouble", etc.

Only time will tell, but I think in general it's hard to really understand what these kind of discounts mean or make any link to the financial viability of the manufacturer or resellers. As many have noted, discounts this time of year are sometimes staggering and the very reason that we are all being bombarded with Black Friday, etc ads on our texts, email, and otherwise.

The aggressive price cut implies that demand for the OM-1 is not strong. Canon, for example, launched the R6 at $2,500 and only recently discounted it to $2,299.

Looks like the code doesn't work anymore.

Maybe, but note the aggressive price cut lasted about 36 hours, and now it's back to the regular price from all US retailers- albeit with the across-the-board $199 BF discount. Additionally, Amazon.com was the only (presumably) US retailer whose actual price dropped briefly by the maximum amount noted, otherwise fluctuating up and down during that 36 hour period. Adorama's lower net price was not generally advertised and available only via an obscure coupon code that was available for maybe a day.

UPDATE: I found a shipped and sold by Amazon that arrived this morning ($1999). When I tried to register online it said not valid for US warranty!? Does that mean they shipped me a gray market body?

I am on the phone with OMDS now discussing next steps.

What did they say?

when I ordered mine, I started at the amazon store page, took the link to "OMDS Store" and then took the buy link from there that went back to the Amazon page. So, they better not send me a grey market box.

The Adorama code no longer works. I just checked and talked to a Customer Service agent and he confirmed it.

Prices may rise in 2023. Vendors are aggressive for holiday sales because that's where the volume is and they can't afford to miss it.

A local retailer offered a $300 discount and I had half the cost in trade in's saving half the 10% sales tax. Net $400 saved.

Firmware release today 1.3 claims improved AF

People at a distance with a 300 f/4 or a long telephoto zoom?

The Red Kite guy rates the OM-1 within a few percent of the best of the best AF systems for birds. In his opinion so close, it makes no difference in practice. You will get the perfect or near-perfect focus whenever you use it. And at a competitive price, when you throw in the lenses. You can't do better even at a significantly higher cost. This is before any firmware update and improvement and we have one today. If you shoot BIF there is no reason to hesitate.

I love the 40-150 f/4 because it's so compact and light. I only use the f/2.8 version if I need more reach.

I shoot outdoors. Even in the rain f/4 is fast enough for sports which is why I migrated to the 12-45 to save size and weight. Even the EM1.2 was good enough. The OM-1 is better.

I carefully tested the f/2.8 and f/4 versions of the normal zoom and the telephoto and can't find a difference in sharpness across the entire 40-150 range.

The OM-1 with the 40-150 and 12-45 f/4s and the 25 f/1.8 is my go-to kit unless I need a second body. Amazingly compact, lightweight, and great IQ.

I see I need to update my gear page.

Don't think the EM-5 uses the same sensor. Don't think its the 1,000 crosspoints covering the entire sensor and BIS Stacked.

If you only want 20MP and don't need Phase Detech AF buy an EM1-4 and add a grip.
