Looking at the new R6II in terms of video recording, Canon has improved a few things, there is finally 4K/60p 10bit 422 internally with no crop, although the lack of histogram and sound volume level display during recording + mini-HDMI are big issues.

I hope Z6III will also offer 4K/60p 10bit 422 internally without crop + gives some better video features then Canon and previous Z models - it's the cam I am waiting for with improved video and AF tracking. I am fine with 24Mp - whishing it to be the king of low light.

What video improvements can we expect from Z6III considering $2500 price?

Nothing is known about Z6 III. Are you interested in pure speculation?

I'd suggest looking at the Z9. Any of the software features you'd expect to arrive.

Waveforms.

Maybe the new high resolution zoom but that'll depend on how high the camera resolution is.

For example,

4K 120P 10 bit 422 and no crop (no overheating)

1080 200P

Full-size HDMI port

2 hours and 5 minutes recording instead of 30 minutes (on all modes please)

Anti-flickering shutter speed adjustment

Waveform

Focus breathing compensation

Reduced latency on the LCD screen (Z9 has addressed this issue)

Support linear manual focus with Z lenses

A new log curve to expand dynamic range on video

A sensor with dual native ISO

Sony A7RV LCD screen design

We should demand good lenses. Not focus digital breathing compensation AKA cropping.

The fact is that some of the Nikon Z lenses have focus breathing. For example, I own the 85 1.8 S lens and it has focus breathing. The telephoto S lenses including 400 2.8/600 4 TC have focus breathing. Please watch Ricci's video (24:48-25:00)

As per Nikon's USA website of the new 600 f4 TC, the following is mentioned:

"A powerful focus-breathing compensation function maintains a consistent angle-of-view as focus position moves, an effect that virtually eliminates focus breathing."

See? Even Nikon have to use digital compensation to alleviate focus breathing.

Finally, what are good lenses by your standard? Total focus breathing-free?

That's in lens not digital. None of the Nikon cameras have digital breathing compensation.

Do you want cropping? No point buying a camera that doesn't crop and then turning on cropping.

Yes lenses should minimize breathing. I don't want my wide lenses being cropped.

Ricci hasn't shown how it works actually. And his video only shows the 600 has serious focus breathing. Chance is that it may really have to use digital breathing compensation to address the problem.

You don't get it.

Some of the Z lenses already has focus breathing issues and it is not minimal breathing. A focus breathing compensation feature is good for addressing the problems of lenses with higher degree of focus breathing.

It is not a mandatory feature. You can have it on to avoid breathing, and have it off to avoid cropping.

  1. Extra large HDMI port - even bigger than full size HDMI, and hence more robust.
  2. The rear screen is completely removable (it connects to the camera over USB-C), so you can position it wherever you like on your rig. No more arguments over how the screen articulates!
  3. No built in grip, it just has a rosette so you can attach the MC-N10 to the right side of it if you want one.
  4. 4.5k video, for even more detail than 4k.
  5. Twin RCA jacks for monitoring audio out, so you can connect a higher quality headphone amp for better monitoring audio quality.

If the Z6III only receives a similar set of incremental updates like the R6II got, I won’t be upgrading. If Nikon follows Sony and Canon, I won’t upgrade to a Z 6III. Maybe the mythical Z 8 instead.

Unlikely to happen, but if they provided 32 bit audio and some decent preamps, they would be one big step beyond the competition for those into video.

These would be more then my expectation... I would be happy even having 1 min recording clip restriction time with 4K/120p 10 bit 422 and no crop.

And I would like Z6III has - as more video centric - 16:9 LCD size.

6. Tripple SD Card slots

7. Dolby Surround speakers

8. Variable megapixel sensor 5-33.7 MP

9. stereo dual viewfinders

10. AC power outlet

12. dual function burger grill processor heat sink

The Z6III/Z7III cameras need a new, faster, sensor. The II's should have had one. At least 1/60s readout, and preferably 1/120s readout.

I can't think of any circumstance where I would upgrade without it.

Pointless thread

You are asking about a camera that hasn’t been announced yet and then want to compare it to a camera that has been announced?
