I was wondering if anyone had the chance to compare the new nikon mk2 lenses (speaking of 18mm 1.4 WR, 23mm 1.4 WR, 33mm 1.4 WR, 56mm 1.2 WR) against the corresponding nikon z primes?

has fuji reached parity or even outperforms the nikon lenses?

There are plenty of examples online you could find to compare? All I can say is the new Fuji lenses stopped me from buying into the Nikon Z system. From my research they look to give very similar results, though a little smaller and brighter (f1.4 vs f1.8) and with aperture rings – all of which I value.

I can't say for Nikon but 23mm LM WR vs 35mm GM, the Sony image quality beats the Fuji 23mm in all aspects. I do some landscapes, portaits but I mainly do keyboard photography (taking pictures of computer keyboards). The fine details coming from the 35mm GM is night and day. If I gave the GM 10/10, the fuji would get around 6/10.

For what its worth, the new 24-70mm GM II retains more detail (textures of keys on the keyboard) compared to fuji.

Can't deny though, its great the Fuji is much smaller and lighter to carry around. I'm not sure if its the XT-4 sensor or what but I've sold the XT-4, kept the 23mm LM WR, and hoping the XT-5 will close the gap?

First camera I take walk about is Fuji. First camera I take to 'work' is Sony

Sony: A7IV/A7C
Fuji: XT-4.

Hope this helps from an amateur

You kidding, right? :D

Lenstip is a site I have some reservations about, but they do test lots of lenses. Here is a comparison of the Fuji 23 and Nikon 35 (spoiler - the Fuji is way ahead)

Having said this, I do think there’s more to any system than optical factors alone. If you want the ultimate in resolution there’s no avoiding the GFX100/s.

Fuji 23 f1.4 WR
Fuji 23 f1.4 WR

Nikon 35 f1.8 Z
Nikon 35 f1.8 Z

Frankly, I think you should seriously consider swapping your Fuji as you may have a bad copy. See below from Lenstip, who tested (and highly rated) both:

Sony 35 f1.8 GM
Sony 35 f1.8 GM

Fuji 23 f1.4 WR
Fuji 23 f1.4 WR

Why would he be kidding? 35mm is probably the strongest case for a focal length where Full frame has all the advantages. Sure the XF 23mm is not bad, its superb. But there is no shame in being out performed or out spec'ed when not playing on your on field.

But there is basically nothing to make it better when it comes to XF 23/1.4 LM WR. This lens is perfectly opticaly corrected, with zero flaws. With super fast LM, build like a tank. Weather sealed. Relatively small and compact. And price is fine too (for such performance).

Saying that some lens outperforms new XF 23/1.4 is like joke ;)

Because it’s not even close to true based on objective measurements.

Thanks, I am aware of this test, but reality is probably not as simple as these charts imply. there are other tests (digitalkamera.de) where the 35mm S comes out on top vs. the new 23mm and actually I found that the test results of lenstip often dont match my personal experience. hence I am looking for some hands on experiences by people who use both systems.

We some people are paid to say so...

Lenstip has the best methodology of all optic/camera testers...I tryust these guys to the heavens.

Lenstip reports lp/mm. Would you not need to multiply the results for a full frame lens on a full frame sensor by 1.5 to compare to an apsc sensor? ie to compare the resolution per frame width.

It depends what you want to compare. They test on the 45 megapixel z7, so a similar pixel density to the Fuji that puts similar demands on the glass.

That’s good for comparing lenses; obviously it’s less good for comparing system resolution.

I imagine that it is the system resolution ie the detail in the entire frame that OCP prefers the Sony over Fujifilm.

FYI, I am very satisfied with the detail from Fujifilm that I see in the largest prints that I make with my Epson 3380 (16”x24”).

Good to know, have you got any examples just so I can see the actual differences by any chance? I guess that’s why the 35 GM is bigger and more expensive.. plus I suspect the sensor has something to do with it too? The new Fuji sensor does pull more detail out of the Fuji lenses and while I wasn’t impressed with the new 56mm when I tried it on the xt4, when I put it on the xh2 it was clearly better than the old lens.

Like another poster, I just can say, that this new primes are so great, that I decided to sell my canon gear .

Now I will only shoot with Fuji, Xh2 , Xh2S and XT5 . These primes are amazing . I don't know how they compare with other brand, but they are good enough for me. Well lt's not 100 % of the truth : I compared them to the regular Canon line, and yes the fuji are more expansive (but far less than L lenses) but way better and lighter.

I don't feel the need anymore to shoot FF.

Ok. I’ll give it a try. OCP, I think your comments are warranted and are obviously based on your use of the lenses you lay out above. Please provide some images to back the opinion up. It would really help with those of us reading through this thread. Sure, you may use a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement to tell us that you can’t post the images of your client work product. And if that’s the case from your end, please post a clip of an image that’s personal using the Nikon gear. Cheers and looking forward to the comparison.

For those out there that are thinking I’m not able to accept that Fuji might not perform as well as the Nikon gear above as I am a Fuji dude, that’s not correct. I’m happy to accept that Fuji is performing below the Nikon IQ in the use case above. Just prove it with images.

My experience with this lens, I have taken a lot of pics with my XT4 at F2 800 iso handheld and it's tack sharp. In my book, there is nothing above tack sharp.
