Good evening,

With the new update the info overlay on the screen would rotate with the cameras orientation. Nice. But the multi selection up down button changes as well, while showing to a customer photos using the right arrow to advance to the next picture, if I rotate the camera a bit to portrait the button now changes the photo display options. Is there a way to disable the buttons only?

Enabled in the Settings Menu

The multi-selector ring changes too in portrait orientation - left-right=next / last picture; up/down - changes the display overlay

Menu it f3 Custom Controls (PLayback) provides the choices. You can choose to allocate many buttons (more now with firmware 3.0) and one option you can choose is "NONE"

I did not have that issue with the previous version

Don't know, but instead of using the buttons, just swipe on the screen. Less wear and tear on the buttons :)
Ugh. I hate the touchscreens, disable them on all my cameras.

I still haven’t figured it out and it’s driving me nuts

Wait..just tried it on mine. Landscape mode...left and right buttons..images go back and forth as you expect.

Rotate to portrait mode...the left and right buttons..as presented in portrait orientation..work just fine.

The camera is doing exactly as it should.

Adapt joel.

Try to tilt the camera in between, like you're showing it to a customer.

I just checked here and you are right, I also cannot find anywhere an option to disable that.

To me though it makes sense as Nikon implemented, if you are looking at images in portrait mode, than it makes sense that left / right are left and right and not the other way around. I do know what you mean though.

The thing is, for ages now I scroll through images using the rear command dial so this is not an issue for me, to me using the rear command dial is much better as your hand doesn't need to readjust. Also, you can then use the front command dial to skip 10 images (or customize it to do something else in the menu which is great)

If the Z30 -7ii would allow to scroll pictures using the wheel, we can get used to it. But so far only the Z9 does that.
Besides, the Z9’s gyroscope sensor from landscape to portrait is VERY sensitive. Showing a picture to a customer in landscape but ‘Slightly’ tilting it would make the Z9 jump back and forth from landscape to portrait.
Heck, even an iPhone has a rotating lock for that very reason.

The ONLY positive useful feature from 3.0 - to me, is the ability to shoot high speed sync with flash. And that should have worked with version 1.0 as well.

I’m frustrated on a very deep level

You certainly can on both the Z 30 and Z 7II.

Don't want to be harsh but you (as most other photographers) really ought to study their cameras better.

Do read the manuals!

Z 7II

Peace and keep shooting.

Reading the manuals solves 99% of problems everywhere.

Thank you for pointing this out, in a respectful manner. We are all humans sometimes overworked and overwhelmed, and we may miss stuff because we are humans.

I know, I miss a lot of stuff as well. But, when you spend thousands in a hobby, it does pay off to find some time and get to know your equipment inside out as much as possible.

The setups you can do with function buttons (even in playback mode) is awesome.

When you reply to your own post, it's difficult to know who you are thanking.
