Adding paper types to Canon Pro 300 so it shows on operational panel

Hello folks,

Today I added four 3rd party icc profiles to my Canon Pro 300 printer. All of them have been added to the driver and I see all of them under "Media Type" and "Printer Profile" in Canon Professional Print & Layout. And three out of the four show up on the paper type list on the printer. Another one didn't show up at first but appeared later.

Anyhow, I was wondering what could be the issue preventing the 4th one from appearing on the operational panel. When I tried adding other ones yesterday only one of four showed up on the operational panel. For what it is worth, all the papers are from the same manufacturer.

Thanks in advance for any insights on how to get them all to show up on the list on the printer.

From the little I have done with this in to Pro 1000 , I feel it is a software thing..... sometimes the update can be funny and needs time to filter through . There is a limit to the number of "custom papers" you can add I think.

I turn off paper checking at the printer , as I tend to be arms length from it and make all selections on the PC .

You need to use the Canon Media Configuration Tool software for this.

There's a good Youtube video via Fotospeed on setup and use of this software.

This software UI (IMO) is clunky and not nearly as streamlined or user friendly as PPL.

Hi. I purchased my PRO-300 this past spring and I'm enjoying it very much. I have a similar problem getting papers to show on the panel LCD of the printer. I don't know whether this is the same as your issue or not....

Thanks for your response. Yes, the one took some time to filter through. On the 300 you are allowed 35 papers in total. Some defaults you can remove if you need more room. I think the 35 limit is for the printer only. I think I can add many more profiles to the software. Not sure though.

How do you turn off paper checking? I haven't been clear on whether the software overrides the printer so I make the same choices on both.

Thank you. I did use the Canon Media Configuration Tool and did was it was supposed to though at times it said it couldn't connect with the printer though it clearly had.

It says that the the printer has been updated with the paper but I just don't see it in the list of paper types. Oh well, if PPL settings can override the printer settings then it doesn't matter if the paper shows up on the operational panel of the printer. I have been thinking that the PPL and printer settings had to match. If they don't then I am good to go.

I think I have seen the video but no harm in watching again as I may have missed something. Thanks again! :-)

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your response.
It is similar in that not all the paper types are being shown on the LCD screen. I did see that you answered my question from above where I was wondering how to make sure the software overrides the printer. I am going to respond my specifically on your thread as I have some thoughts about what you posted.

Cheers!

One thing that the manual doesn't make clear is that some paper types have to be physically present in the appropriate tray in order for the paper type to post on the LCD screen.

You have already known this, but I wanted to make sure. Little details like this can bring big frustrations. Ask me how I know...

P.S. Jose Rodriguez has a pretty decent tutorial on the software as well.

Thank you. I just saw this elsewhere as well. I will try with the paper in question to see if it appears on the screen once it is in the tray. If this is what is causing the issue then I will be thrilled to have it solved. It would however been much easier if it just showed in the first place after I installed the ICC profile. Too tired to try now but will ASAP.

I am curious if it will show on the screen if I have cut the paper. I have a sample pack and there is only one sheet of each paper so I will probably cut it into two 4x6's and one 5x7.

So I must ask, how do you know this? :-)

Was experiencing the same and banging my head against the wall. However, there are still inconsistencies. I think this new-ish Canon printer driver is buggy OR Air Print is causing issues (on Macs).

I would love to disable Air Print on the Mc. But so far haven't found a way.

To disable or delete the Air Print driver on a mac is simply to download directly the Canon pro 300 or which ever printer driver is specific to your printer directly from the Canon site and choose that as your printer driver. Here is a video on the correct way to install the correct printer driver which is not the Apple Air Print driver:

Thanks for the vid.

I have the Canon driver loaded (and confirmed).

From time to to time I'll notice that the Air Print driver will (in a sneaky fashion) load itself.

Is this Apple sleight of hand?

Hence, my want to completely disable the feature all together.

I've perused some of the Apple forums and haven't found any user created scripts to disable Air Print which kind of surprises me. There's always somebody out there creating stuff like this to circumvent Apple's BS.
