Nice post Hans. As a young lad I was within just a few feet of the new Queen during her visit down here in 1953. “We have seen better days.”Coincidentally we visited this town on the same day as the Queen (center of the image, green dress, the lady to the right).
Looking back after almost fifty years we had come to see the birthplace (and burial place) of a genius and saw perhaps the greatest monarch of our time addressing her subjects in an unexpected relaxed atmosphere. A day that burned itself into my mind.
No, not Grantham.Grantham
Yes, it was. You can still buy prints of the visit. Was the photo taken on 27th June 1975?
Out on a large farmland limb that was once native bush before the settlers arrived - and in the late 1800s a major centre for the kauri gum industry.

The nearby large harbour to our east, with many years of sedimentation, is now rather shallow with a very substantial tidal variation and difficult entry - not as popular for shipping as the main local harbour just a few km to its north.A geologically recently formed limb that, over time, turned an extensive bay into a very large harbour on this South Pacific island.Out on a large farmland limb that was once native bush before the settlers arrived - and in the late 1800s a major centre for the kauri gum industry.
