I have read on several reviews that the AF on the two canon F 11 telephoto lenses was limited to the central portion of the view screen. Is that also true on the R7, or does the smaller sensor have an effect?

The AF area are a little larger on the R7, a benefit if you ask me.

To clarify, you are still limited to a central focus area but that area with the crop sensor is larger on the R7. You will not have edge-to-edge focusing.
