Here are five photos with the above camera and lens combo. The first photo has a little post horizon correction and the last photo also has horizon correction and was also cropped. Otherwise these photos are sooc. This is another look at NYC!

Thank you for looking!

View of Brooklyn from Governors Island. The kid in me likes these cranes!

Yes, strange things occur on Governors Island!

I never get tired of riding my Brompton (bike) on the island. So peaceful here in the early morning.

The ferry ride home on this very humid morning with the air so thick. Fortunately, I created my own breeze on the bike and the ferry ride is always pleasant.

I love ships and watching this tugboat guide this ship up the East River.

No4 is my favorite :-)
Thank you Yannis! My idea is to show this camera and lens combination straight out of camera so people can see the possiblity. Here is a version where I cropped it and tried to make it better in post. The light is difficult with the late morning light and high humidity and haze. But, it's what we encounter and have to deal with on our vacations and travels. For me these are practice before heading out at the end of this week, but these are also the photos that tourists take when they come to NYC.

The last photo in the series is probably an impossible photo as the ship gets lost in the buildings and is overall flat. but, you have to practice to see what works.

Here's another effort and attempt to improve my skills in post.

A cropped version of the 4th photo with an attempt to improve it in post. Absolutely am open to comments on this photo and any of the others. I use Silkypix 11 Developer Studio.

Hello below EP-7 enthusiast :-)

My favorite shot is actually the first for the tones of the clouds/sky. Are you using one of the JPEG profiles directly or RAW conversion?

I like the idea of that mannequin but I find it in the composition and contrast hard to see. That's a shot that could go from kind of ironic to creepy (those two ways, interesting to me).

Did you also order from Amazon Japan?

The first photo was taken with "Color Profile 2." For those who do not have the camera it is described as, "A preset with deep, austere colors."

The mannequin was an interesting find behind one of the old houses on the island. Governors Island has a military history being a fort or base from the mid 19th century through the end of WW1. Anyway, since my model was cooperative I repositioned him for some other shots and set him up straight in the chair. There are a lot of ways to interpret this shot, but I think finds like this make for unique and interesting photos. Here's another one.

Yes, I'm the guy who ordered it from Amazon Japan and received it via DHL in five days including the weekend.

I'm very much an enthuisast for this camera. The combo here fits in a 1 litre waist pack from Patagonia, so makes for easy access while bike riding.

Glad you enjoyed a couple of the photos! Thank you for looking! I'm trying this combo to see if it will be a good camera on a vacation when you want to walk around with something small in a city and then when you loose the light can put on a PL15mm. I also plan to use this as a second body on an upcoming vacation when I don't want to mess around with changing lenses on my other camera.

As the epl7 hasn't a viewfinder, how do you find focusing using live view in contrasty conditions?
I'm not sure if you meant for Raist3d or me to reply? And do you mean the EP-7 or the E-PL7 which was released in 2014.

Anyway, in regards to the E-P7 I have "Live View Boost" off as it does nothing for me in bright light or contrasty situations. Instead I adjust the brightness setting to 6 and that works fine for me to frame and compose a shot.

I got lucky today and saw four Monarchs fluttering about and moved as fast as I could. Wish I had the camera set to a faster shutter speed, but sometimes it is what it is and you do the best you can in a hurried moment.

New York City has a lot of parks and green spaces!

Wow ... I don't remember the ferry being so big when I lived up there as a kid. I guess we both grew up :-)

Thanks for your feed back on focusing in contrasty conditions. I use the lumix GX800 as my walk around camera. It's super compact but impossible to use in bright sunshine.

I'm thinking of changing it for either the ep 5 or the ep 7. I have an external viewfinder from my old ep 3 days which fits the ep 5 but I'm not sure if it would fit the ep 7. I must check and see.

Anyhow both cameras are easy to carry around

The building on the left of the last shot is 125 Broad Street. I worked in that building for many years a long time ago. Governor’s Island was a Coastguard Base on those days and we could look down and see the ferries going back and forth for that short journey all through the day. One of my college roommates grew up on the island when it was an Army Base. His biggest complaint was that he went to school on public transit and there were never any snow days because the subway and the ferries never stop running!

Those deep red Moran tugboats you show in the last picture along with the yellow Staten Island Ferry are fixtures - totally unchanged (in appearance) in many decades.

The biggest ship I ever saw in the bay was a US battleship before they were all decommissioned.

I think it’s great you captured these images.

Compared to the GX800 which I tried some time ago, I much prefer the EP7 mainly for its great IBIS.

The EP-7 has some great specifications but I feel Olympus missed out by not providing viewfinder support. I have the VF-2 for my EP-5 and though it is not on there all the time, it is very useful. If I was considering both cameras now, that would probably tip the balance.

Thank you 2ndact scene1! I'm glad you enjoyed the photos! I enjoy taking photos of NYC and Manhattan where I now live. I believe "documentary and street photography" photos are even more appreciated with the passage of time.

There's a lot happening on Governors Island these days. I often see school groups going over there and in the summer on the weekends the lines can be long to go over there on the five+ minute ferry ride. It's a great place to ride a bike and soon I'll go over for some bird photography as it's on the path of migrating birds as they head south.

For me this is a frustration with Olympus/OM System, what appears to be the lack of continuity. It would probably have been easy to add that capability at the time of production. I was disappointed that I can't use my PEN F flash on the E-P7 either.

Hopefully, if there is a next generation PEN a pop up EVF could replace the little flash in the corner. It depends on what lenses you want to use and how you intend to use the camera. So far, I haven't struggled too much without an EVF. I'm planning to put the PL 8 - 18 on it soon as the largest lens I will use with this camera. That leaves me free to put longer lenses on the second body. We'll see how that works out.

I just put the LCD at the max brightness. I can see enough for composition. I normally don't do manual MF.
