Is there a way to adjust the autofocus the in same way it's done on Pentax DSLRs? I know it's contrast detect and is supposed to be perfectly accurate, but I have a backfocus issue with my DA 50mm F1.8. It's OK at infinity, but when I try to shoot a portrait, it constantly backfocuses, even if I use the face detect mode. Can anything be done about it?

"AF adjustments (even on the K-5) don't apply to AF using contrast detection (which is how the K-01 performs AF). So it has nothing to do with the K-01 being a high end model, it just has to do with the fact that you don't need AF adjustments since it is focusing directly on the image (and not in a separate AF module)." Alex,

Enable the focus peaking and make occasional (manual) adjustments if needed. There is nothing else to do.

Possibly a lens issue?

If the lens is focussed manually at "portrait" distances, with or without focus peaking or other assistance, is everything as expected or is it simply that's "as good as it gets" at those distances, due to an issue with the lens?

The lens is nice and sharp, no issues with my DSLRs. I guess the answer is to avoid using in on the K-01.

Try it with one of your DSLR in the LV mode. You should see the same behaviour like when mounted on K-01.

I will. Now there's nobody around to test face detect :(

How much do it back focus? Do it focus on the ears instead of the eyes? Do it focus on the background?

Do the DA 50 mm F1.8 have focus shift? So, you focus with it full open and then stop down to 5.6 and then it is OOF?

If you try to focus on a nearby flat surface, do it still back focus?

Do you use AF-S, let it lock focus and then later take the picture? Then you might have moved. NOTE - AF-C on K-01 do not really work.
