white balance card????

How do you use this card? Do you aim at any one shade for a
certain situation, or us the whole card to white balance too? How
large is the card?
jk
The card is just an 8.5x11 sheet. I like to shoot scenics,
especially forest scenes so I angle the card to face the principle
source of sky lighting. The color shift from folliage can still be
a problem but it is a start.

Hi Gary,

First thanks for your time here.

Why aren't you using the Expodisc? Or Kleenix? Did I just buy the worlds most expensive lens cover? I will know soon, 2 day delivery, plus some time w/ it. I still like the theroy of the Expodisc.

TIA
I just print my own. > Gary
--Gary, I just printed one and tried it. Worked great. I never
would have known--thanks for the tip and education on what it meant.

Glad it worked. The ExpoDisk allows you to determine a custom
white balance like an incidental light meter. It is not used
generally for reflective measurement. So, the custom white balance
setting that I have from the football game can be used in any other
mercury vapor lighting scene that may come up. I am still learning
but that is what I know so far.

I think you will find that the Expo disk is more accurate than a Pringles lid or kleenex. Neither of the two other products are necessarily neutral nor are they consistent. Is it worth it? I can get accurate color without it but with it takes more effort. Try it under difficult mixed source lighting. I think you will find it very effective.

All in all, white balance sucks. The big problem is that it is
hard to find a white source that isn't blown out. A blown out
source will not set the balance properly because it lacks all color
data.

--All true but at least I knowq what a white point is!!! I had no idea what a 3/4 white point was. :-0

Can you buy the Expodisc from more than one source online? I have tried a few different stores and did not find it.

Is it only available from http://www.expodisc.com ?
I'm looking for the best price.

The website reads like they are a small operation so it wouldn't surprise me if they were the only source.

Still looking forward to getting mine tomorrow, despite some other posts here giving me doubts. Having it parked on the lens beats having to carry something else around and scratched plastic would be too tacky for me. And consistency over years sounds good to me too.

I agree with you comment on the scratched plastic. Another thing, how would you keep the scratched plastic clean. any dirt and stains would effect the color measurment.

As far as I know it is sold only through the web site. It is a small company.
