…from almost the same hopeful viewpoint.
I have a sense of déjà vu about this.

It does look like a photo I've seen before.

Were you on the Hopetoun St overpass, Auckland NZ?

Spot on Brian, Hopetoun Street it is. With previous references to Hope Town on Elbow Quay in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas – and its striped lighthouse v the Auckland Sky Tower.

Over to you

Aha! I was looking around there but didn't get in close. I was fooled by these devices, which I'm now curious about. What are they for?

I did get that Bahamas reference. It took me a while, though to get from Elbow Quay to Hope Town, but I did get there. I thought you might have been referencing the Sky Tower, but I wasn't sure.

Those devices are anchors which are sleeved and anchored into the rock with concrete grout. Then the steel tendons are tensioned.

Roughly as in the diagram below:

Supplied by my son-in-law who knows about these things.

At the end of the jetty, is an underwater tourist attraction.
Was it constructed in 1864 and 1865? And the observatory possibly shaped like a whale?

Free turn if correct

P.S. The whale shaped feature appears to be planned only, having run into funding issues. For now, maybe just whale art. :)

You would need to be nuts to climb those rocky cliffs you can see in the distance.
What a cracking good clue Brian – from a green hill climber’s point of view. ;-)

(Your “almost 2km long” clue in the previous challenge was just as good)

And thanks for keeping it moving, offering free turns seem to just be an easy out for some.

Where was this photo taken from?

There are two named parks visible, one on each side of the large tree – which is in a third much larger named park.

Up very early this morning so now away to bed down here.
