That isn't what you're looking for, though. It cannot transfer directly from a memory card unless copies to an intervening device first - which defeats your need to stay small & portable.Thank you. This looks like a good and reasonable option. Does it have a durable cover?Actually, few external drives these days need external power supplies, unless you get a backup drive. You can't directly transfer from a reader to the drive, unless it has built-in card reader and an OS to do this. Otherwise, most portable drives will need both the external power supply (included if needed) as well as the transfer cable to connect to a laptop/desktop.Looking for recommendations for a portable drive. 4 TB give or take and something rugged but small. Any recommendations? They don't seem to have power supplies. How do you power them? Is it best to connect a card reader to the drive to transfer images vs. from the camera? Not sure the connectors will be compatible.
I bought this last year for backup use on a month long road trip. No external power needed. Now $99 on Amazon.

I have to do things in two stages - download files from the camera to my computer, then from the computer to the drive. (then delete the files from the computer to make room for the next cycle) Not as bad as it sounds.
As some have mentioned, portable SSD are an option, but are much more expensive, and not necessary IMHO. Just remember to use the drive eject button before you unplug drives so the portable drive can complete file transfers.
