Are Fujifilm cameras sold in a sealed box?

Bit of an odd question I accept, however with limited stocks of particular Fujifilm cameras I am wondering if there is a fool-proof way to ascertain whether you are getting a brand new item from stock vs. a display model that has been packed carefully etc. I note that with a lens, there are no security labels (as seemingly there are with say a Sony).

For certain, you can always look at the condition of the packaging etc to try and see if it has been opened (generally it is very difficult to put an item back in a way that doesn't give some indication as to being less than as new from the factory), but would ideally like one that hasn't been handled in a shop. Particularly as there sometimes seems to be an odd trend where folks like to look at the sensor etc (maybe just me, but I find it odd the number of pics that you see on auction sites etc where the sensor is on show).

Thanks in advance.

The box is not sealed but a factory new camera comes in a sealed bag.

I don't remember there ever being a seal on my Fujifilm camera boxes. No way to tell whether it has ever been opened.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't ever remember getting a sealed bag on my Fujifilm gear here in the U.S.

it is a plastic bag with a metallic seal, and when you open the bag the seal is destroyed.

I bought many Fuji cameras brand new, and every single one was in a sealed bag (inside the box).

Ditto in the UK.

Bought most of my Fuji gear from a reputable UK bricks and mortal shop (London Camera Exchange), so I can see the state of the box and packaging before my card takes a hit.

Many thanks - very helpful. Maybe there are regional differences, however hopefully if buying from a reputable dealer and with proper UK stock, it will be ok.

I do seem to remember this being discussed a few years back and there were regional differences at the time.

IME it makes no difference - in my experience it used to be the 'reputable' stores that were more likely to despatch a previously opened item whereas the low end box shifter were just that - box shifters.

I have purchased 2 new Fujifilm cameras in the past here in Australia. Both my X-E2 and X-T2 came in a sealed bag inside an unsealed box.

As someone else has described before, the camera body itself is packed in a plastic bag, which is sealed with a metallic sticker. The sticker will break when you open the bag.

The box, and the rest of the packaging is not sealed.

However, I have seen a few unboxing videos on Youtube, in which the plastic bag was not sealed, and that was mainly for the US market.

My (conspiracy impregnated) guess is that in the US, where no questions asked free return of cameras is so widely practiced, by not sealing their packaging, the manufacturers are supporting the retailers in reselling returned items as new.

The best idea to find out this is to contact Fujifilm in your area.

Here in the US, I have never received boxes with seal. In some cases, the bags inside were sealed. More recently, in India, my X-pro 3 came in a sealed box that the dealer opened with a ceremonial flourish in front of me. He claimed that the seal should assure me that the camera was brand new. However, we were both surprised to find that there was no manual inside. So he opened a second one and the same story again. Turns out that Fuji had shipped out a bunch of new cameras to its dealers in India without manuals and they mailed a copy to me at my hotel..

When I buy from my local shop, two things can happen:

1. If the only item in stock is the one in the shelf, it goes into the original box packaging. Of course the original box is not sealed anymore.

2. If there is more than 1 item in stock, I get the one in the original box, which is opened in front of me to check that all contents are inside.

This is how the sealed plastic bag looks like (here for an X100V):

unboxing the X100V - note the metallic seal with Fujifilm written all over it.

This is taken from the official Fuji Guys unboxing video:

I've never seen a Fujifilm product come in a sealed bag or box and I've contacted Fujifilm many times to suggest that all products be sealed in some way. It's interesting to know that some products in some markets came in the sealed bags and I hope that rolls out to all products globally, but if they've been doing that in some markets for years and it hasn't rolled out by now, I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for all the help on this thread (was actually my very first post).... will pick up a new camera tomorrow therefore will be sure to update on what I find.

Adding this in case someone has the same question in the future and they find it in the archives.

Received a brand new camera today from an authorised supplier here in the UK.

Whilst the box doesn't have any seal (which is consistent with other comments in this thread), I can confirm that the camera does come in a bag with a tamper evident seal on it. The lens however, does not.

Many thanks for those who took the time to respond. Greatly appreciated.
