Does anyone know what rumours he is referring to? From what I understand he just mentions "5 year cycle" upgrade? Has anyone heard anything more?

I think he was refering to the A7S III which had a 5 year last cycle. Doesn't mean the RX10 IV will have the same cycle of course..

I will be surprised if we are to see a RX10 Mark 5 as I will also be suprised if we ever see a RX100 VIII. I just don't think there will be a large enough demand for one personally.

Never say never though....

Wishful thinking involved...!

It seems they are new rumours 4 days ago

Thanks for posting, always interesting to see rumors. When it will become real you will anyway find the announcement in alphauniverse.com like here for the RXiv https://alphauniverse.com/stories/sony-rx10-iv-announced/ But by that time the whole world will know.

Anyway, the new battery? is interesting but not a big deal; blackout free EVF bursts up to 24FPS?, okay could be interesting; AI / computational technology? Depends for what purpose, I am shooting RAW. Ergonomics? Yes if that includes a fully articulated screen.

But for me much more of interest would be improved stabilization (combined optical and sensor?) and general update to the AF_c tracking capabilities of the A1/A7iv.

No, it's just the first time for several yeas that it's been mentioned. Some time ago SAR was convinced the RX10 V was about to be released and instead we got a new RX100 (I think it was the VI).

I think this is the page where the person in the video is referring to. As far as I know this is the first time an RX10v has been mentioned in Sonyalpharumors, or?
Apart from

October 2020; RX10V, released in FY’20 Q4 to FY’21 Q1. It features Bionz XR and new 20 megapixels 1.0-type stacked CMOS image sensor, AF/AE calculations still up to 60 times/s. But the dynamic range extended and supported 14bit uncompressed RAW. And Full-Res 5K Oversampling 4K/60p 10bit 4:2:2 Video in XAVC HS / XAVC S / XAVC SI Mode.

Such rumours are purely speculation, based on no actual leaked information at all. The only accurate rumours come a few weeks before the official release, when information leaks from outsiders who get early access to a new product.

So this story is based on nothing more than the regular speculative threads we've had here for the last few years. Perhaps, one day, someone's guess will coincide with reality, but I don't think it'll be this year. Sony has three new updated full-frame, and probably a couple of new APS-C, bodies due first.

"removal of the flash"

If this rumor is true, are you kidding me? What kind of bridge camera doesn't have a flash? Low sales of flash units, Sony?

Not only the M5 isn't coming, M4 might already be hard to get in some places.

So if you find a RX10 for sale, buy it before they get rare, the production situation in China doesn't seem to be improving.

So how do you like them apples?

This speculation is nothing to do with Sony. The logic of this speculative point would be based on three things:
  1. The big lens gets in the way of the tiny pop-up flash. You get a big shadow in the image, so it's of little use.
  2. It's a long lens, outdoor camera. If it needs a flash at all, it needs to be a much more powerful, higher unit.
  3. The A6600 dropped the in-built flash, and the full-frame bodies don't have one, either. I can't say I miss it. The RX10 is styled to look like an old-fashioned DSLR, hence no need for an in-built mini flash.

1. I have the RX10 IV and I use the flash moderately. Sure it's not as good as a dedicated flash (I do use one for special events) but it's good enough for most uses and really convenient. I just don't like the extra bulk of attaching an external flash and worrying about batteries all the time. The only time the lens gets in the way of the flash is if I forget to take off the lens hood. Otherwise, I haven't seen any shadows at any focal length with the lens hood off.

2. I have used it indoors quite a bit actually.

3. That's actually one of the reasons (another being the lack of panorama) why I got the A6500 instead of the A6600. Without the built-in flash it makes it a requirement to carry an external flash unit, which in a way negates the advantage of having the smaller body compared to Full Frame. The RX10V won't be so much of a "all in one" camera anymore without a built-in flash!

Heck I’d buy one. I had the RX10IV and thought it was mostly great. The two big issues for me are the speed (or lack thereof, of writing to the card and battery life. If those issues are fixed and the EVF is better then I will definitely try one. I sold my last one because I just wasn’t using it much. But I really have missed having it at times.

Mmh, no word about UI change/upgrade?

Flash removal? I like on board flash for added fill light.

A local retailer here in my country has the RX10 iv $150 ($1250) cheaper than usual but only one in stock. Biggest discount I have seen as these usually go no less than $1400 here.

In Germany it is hard to find a good used sample for less than 1200€!!!

New it is around 1400-1600€ when in stock.

Like most Sony cameras, it went out of production for a while, and may not be back yet. Sony probably prefers to use its limited chips to make PS consoles and phones. The only high priority cameras are probably the A1 and new A7M4.

Well you need to see my country’s GDP per capita is only $10,000, Germany’s is $46,000, for a lot of people here this camera is a luxury.

but I mentioned price because usually a discount could imply that a new launch is imminent and retailers trying to get rid of older stock.
