Recently purchased a C3030Z. Love it. Need to purchase NiMh batteries/charger. Olympus says I MUST use their product. The salesman sold me Digipower recharger ($40 less). I haven't opened the package yet. Can I use them? Checked Olympus site--says ONLY their product. But I see others using alternate flashes, so why not battery chargers?--Linda Lee

Can you post the link where Olympus says you have to use their brand batts/charger? I think the manual for the Olympus charger says to only use with their batteries but it works fine with other brands.

Any AA NiMH bats will work in the camera, check the mAh rating on the bats, the higher the number the longer they will last before you need to recharge.

I would return it unopened and order from this combo:

They sell a rapid charger and 8 AA Ni-MH batteries for $44.95. I am not sure if he ships overseas, but I have bought his batteries and they are great. They have the same capacity as the original Oly ones, but come in plain green. Sanyo makes them for industrial uses, and probably for repackaging by other companies (oly?).

Try this:

http://cellular.batterysupply.com/mh-c204f-4aa160dc.htm

This is a "smart" fast (1600mah in 2.5hrs) charger for both NiCad & NiMH. It comes with a set of (4) 1600mah batteries PLUS a 12vdc automobile power cable, all for $35.90.

I've got 2 sets of batteries from Thomas Dist. for my C2100 and they work great. Check here- http://thomas-distributing.com/mh-4aa160.htm
They point out Olympus compatability on their website.

hi linda,

i've had my 3030 for about 7 months, and i have had an issue with an olympus batteries. everything seems to be working great.

what i would suggest is to not go out and purchase just any re-chargeable battery. most of the batteries that i've seen on the market are only about 1.2 to 1.3 volt. not really great for a digital camera. you should purchase 1.6 volt. i've got two sets and they seem to last longer the their lower voltage cousins! i purchased the sanyo 1.6volt rechargeable battery. working fine.

cheers,

brian
