love/no love of DXO PureRAW 2

I thought Topaz used Lensfun. Am I wrong?
You are wrong. I'm not sure about "Topaz Studio 2" but that is not in the DeNoise and Sharpening tools; and in my eyes, not really something one would put in a standalone sharpening/denoising tool. Studio 2 does raw conversions, so it might be in there. I'm mostly an ACDSee guy, so I'm personally covered with geometric adjustments.

This is more support for my assertion that direct comparisons between PR output and Topaz is a red herring argument. DXO and Topaz have 2 differing workflow assumptions. (See my post below)
Takes years to start in VirtualBox, but I found this meanwhile.

What does that tell us?
It seems I was right, but I was never able to start Topaz Denoise AI in my VirtualBox. But why would Lensfun be in that folder if Topaz DeNoise AI wouldn't use it?

Seems to be a profile for your camera even if it looks a little bit strange from 20mm.

I had the lens at the widest setting in that shot, and no lens correction was being applied. I've just tried a shot from another camera, and again, no lens correction has been applied:

DeNoise AI 3.6.2 — no lens distortion correction
DeNoise AI 3.6.2 — no lens distortion correction

PhotoLab 5 — automatic lens distortion correction
PhotoLab 5 — automatic lens distortion correction
A good time for you to send Topaz a bug report, if you have the profile in your compact-sony.xml file. The profile has been there since 2019.

G7 X is covered in Lensfun. Because Topaz doesn't open in my VirtualBox it is hard to try myself. Have you marked Apply auto lens correction and are you using Topaz DeNoise AI as a standalone application?

I'm not at the computer at the moment, but will check when I get a chance. But I don't think I changed any of the default settings.

Update:

I've now had a chance to check the software on my PC, and that option has disappeared:

DeNoise AI 3.6.2 no longer has the option to apply lens corrections

Indeed. How does your Lensfun folder look like? The file name for your Canon is compact-canon.xml and for Sony compact-sony.xml

I've now had a chance to check the software on my PC, and that option has disappeared:

DeNoise AI 3.6.2 no longer has the option to apply lens corrections

Even more curious is the behaviour of Sharpen AI. This still does have the Auto Lens Correction option, which is turned on by default, but it's still not correcting the lens distortion:

Sharpen AI does have the lens correction option, but it still doesn't do it.

Indeed. How does your Lensfun folder look like? The file name for your Canon is compact-canon.xml and for Sony compact-sony.xml

Use the search tool in your OS.
Both products have Lensfun folders:

All three Topaz apps have their own Lensfun (hidden) folders, but they appear not to be used.

Seems we will have to wait until some Topaz user can tell us more. Clearly there is a lens correction based on Lensfun, but I can't start Topaz at all in VirtualBox and you can't apply the correction.

Lensfun works in darktable and with your cameras.

What's really odd is that although the lens correction option has disappeared from DeNoise AI, it still installs the Lensfun profiles, though it doesn't use them. Sharpen AI does offer the option, and installs Lensfun, but still does no lens correction.

I'm intrigued by the odd behaviour, but not concerned, as I have no intention of using these apps to developed raw files. I'd be mildly interested if other people have got it to work.

Love: that it's a superb noise reduction tool, and in my hands on comparison does batch noise reduction on large folder of RAW images far better than Topaz.

No love: I was perfectly happy with version 1, had no need for version 2, but for the fact that DXO didn't upgrade version 1 to work with my new Sony A7iv. IMO, pretty chintzy that DXO makes you pay the $79 upgrade just to get it to work with the new Sony as version 1 did with my Sony A7iii. Topaz instantly upgrades its programs to work with new cam releases and doesn't charge for that.
For one year. Then, you have to pay for the new version. Back in the day, Topaz gave you a lifetime of updates for each plug-in purchased. I suppose my life ended a few years ago.
And please spare me from the DXO enthralled users telling me about DXO costs which they say are "justified" - I reject all such opinions.
No reason to go all us and them about software choices. I gave Pure Raw a free trial. I didn't feel it was worth the price but one good thing about it v Topaz Denoise AI: I didn't find artifacts in the results while with Topaz I often have to use the Low Light option and set sharpening to zero because, otherwise, strange things happen. Same for On 1 No Noise AI. It can introduce artifacts, but, its sliders work gradually with the artifacts easily controlled while Topaz Denoise AI's sharpening acts more all or none. I kind of prefer the pre-AI days where we took arms in the nr v lost detail battle. Today the battle is between nr and artificially added detail. Maybe Nik will introduce Nik Dfine AI in its 2023 update (probably for $99) and it will nr + sharpen - artifacts.
