OT..where to buy new computer

Not all PIV's do, which is why I wrote what I wrote.
I also don't think Asus is what they once were. I'm currently
having problems with Windows XP because Asus didn't update the
motherboard for XP compatibility (XP came out 6 months to a year
after this motherboard did) Asus should have better support for
their products, there is no reason for them to have abandoned it as
early as they did. Currently, I think Gigabyte motherboards are
hard to beat for stability, speed, support, and plain quality.
extremly adequate. 2.4mgz processor,1 gig of DDR ram, Video card
with 128 on board the card itself....Asus motherboard......Just a
quick run down
thanks gale
plan is 2.6 PentIV 1 gig ram, 128meg video card,
but what's this about Asus motherboard, something i should
definitely be looking for??

did a little rese3arch kent
apparently ps uses the scratch disc regardless of HOW much ram you
have
so i changed order to 2 80gig drives, another $50
thanks for the advice
I followed that one thread when Isabel was getting her computer and as a result changed my own setup. One article cited:

"Note also that it will only make use of an amount of RAM equal to the available scratch disk space, so if your primary scratch disk fills up Photoshop's performance will drop markedly, even if you have plenty of free RAM in your computer."

I didn't know that :-)

I've had good luck with Dell. A friend of mine got burned when neither Dell nor MS could troubleshoot his computer problems - they just kept pointing at each other. Dealing with the big companies got old - so he went to a local place he'd had good dealings with. They built him a system, and he'll go there if there are any problems.

enough of my PIII 700mhx, 17" monitor.

i have always bought from Dell, i like their pricing, and i trust
their technology, but their sales interface has seriously degraded.

any recommendations?

feivel I am on my third Dell I have always had good service from them. I too notice a difference in the past year it is hard to get a tech that can really help with your particular problem. I've decided to just tear it apart and upgrade it myself in a few weeks. (I did this in the past with one of my other Dells and did not have any problems). I'd love a new 'screamer' ....but not this year....and I will stick with a Dell!

you can get sales within 1-3 min on the phone
can get an operator immediately

when i wanted to change my order, sales connected me with custservice, after 5 min on hold i had to leave

called back a few min later, explained to the operator i didnt have time to wait for cust service

she transferred me about a min later to sales who immediately entered the change to my order and it was confirmed on their website in real time, correctly i might add.

The ONLY thing that is worse than the Dell Customer and Tech Support is their advertisments....

Not only that, you will be getting high quality name brand parts instead of generic Dell parts.

I'm glad you're happy with ABS.

dg is correct, you can get a P4 with or without HT
Of course I'm correct ;^) PC's are my hobby away from my hobby.
thanks dg
if youve been following the thread, you know that i place an order
with ABS
Yes, I have been. So far, you seem thrilled with ABS, and that's the type of feeling every company should strive to give their customers. I'm glad I could help a helpful person who has given me insite to photo editing.
