Olympus Pen-F viewfinder

Not totally clear on what your asking andy, my Pen F is set with Evf in menu set to on"so it automatically switches between rear screen and view finder with the eye sensor and i can bring up previous image on rear screen when i hit the preview button.

I dont recall being able to view the previous image in the view finder at anytime but in saying that i did have a problem with one of my other cameras a OMD EM5 M11 which had a faulty eye sensor and wouldnt switch between the screen and view finder so i had it switched off and toggled between the two with the button LV Button.

When this happened i do recall i did see the previous image showing up in the view finder on occasions along with the menu as well but cant think why it did that, wether it had something to do with having the EVF AUTO switch turned off in the menu.

Just to add to my previous response andy i have found with my Pen F i can toggle the taken image from rear screen to viewfinder buy pressing the LV button (FN2) ...but i had to have the EVF Auto switched off in menu..(cogs J ) section to do it.

Hope this helps

Hi Andy,

I have my Pen F since the time it was introduced in 2016. I cannot recall a way to have both the EVF and the rear screen active simultaneously. The best is to toggle manually between them with the Auto EVF sensor disabled.

I welcome a response that contradicts me. I would learn something. :-)

Personally, I would not want both active simultaneously; huge battery suck on a camera with so-so battery life anyway.

I think that is normal behaviour. I don't have the PenF but I get the same thing on the EM1i, EM1ii, and OM-1. Annoying isn't it!

After viewing it on the rear screen they expect that if you put the camera back up to your eye you are going to take another image and should not have to do something to the camera in order to be able to do so, like press a button. A design decision and perhaps not an incorrect one.

Andy, when you're writing a reply in the editor, please do so above the line that says "--".

That is the signature marker, and anything written below it will be hidden from view for many users (who use the optional setting of not displaying signatures). Because of that, your messages appear empty to many users. You can also go into the settings and turn signatures off, that will solve the problem forever.

Hi Andy,

All I can recommend now that I understand your desire, is to place your thumb on the review button as you raise the Pen F to your eye. Once to your eye, press it. At least there is no fumbling since your thumb is already positioned.

Enjoy your Pen F. I have a silver body. It goes great and is fashionable with my silver lenses 12mm f/2, 45mm f/1.8 and 75mm f/1.8. I've had many non-photographers comment on it over the years. It is a joy to use.

Thanks James. I also have the silver body which is just gorgeous. Had many compliments on it. I have the silver 14-42mm lens along with a rectangular silver lens hood. I understand what your saying about locating my finger on the button before I raise my eye to the viewfinder. Makes sense.
