Part 2 ***May 01, 2022-May 08, 2022 Weekly Show, Tell, and Critique***

There are a few shells mixed in :-)

Taken with Sony RX10 IV. Inpixio strips out the EXif!

All photos are 9 bracketed exposures blended together with Mediachance HDR.

Then cropped and resized to 1080 and sharpened in Photoshop. Then ran thru Inpixio Photo Clip to get rid of distracting elements around the rocks!

A pic from long ago 2010 taken from the moving 7 train. Tall buildings have risen arond the clock tower .. the real estate developer had to leave the clock tower standing. Been trying to capture a pic from the same angle but the train hasn't been cooperating. LoL

Well, it's not exactly like the clock tower is small: the clock is probably still visible from a lot of locations.

There's a German turn of speech "mit der Tür ins Haus fallen", "to fall with the door into the house" which appears to be quite literally applied here.

Now the above look really inconspicuous in this state. Will be interesting to see the difference!
Yeah maybe? I should have wet them too as that is more like what they look like polished
The others look more promising from the outset.
Cause I wet them!!!

Sailing disaster today. Recovering the boat in the deep sand, strong winds and big seas, I may have damaged the trailer to the point that we are done sailing for this trip. The ramp on a calm day:

On the trailer:

I'm working on fixing it, but don't carry a full set of tools on the MH or have the ability to lift the very heavy boat off the trailer to work on the trailer, so it's a struggle. I might need to get the trailer home to fix it. Right now, it's safe to tow (after I replace a tire), but I am leery of launching and recovering Maggie Too without strong, experienced male help. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this kind of thing. :-( Tornado watch tonight, so it's all moot anyway. We'll see...

This didn't stop us from doing some good long dog beach runs. Miss Bliss:

It is still visible from some locations (if the developer had their way it would probably have been demolished but I think the city stipulated that it remain.) but I want to take a pic from an angle view point similar to the original to show a then vs now comparison.

Hopefully the cooking was done indoors. :-D

Perhaps the trailer can be fixed with minimal effort, fingers crossed. But it's a long road trip home?

Probably good advice, but there's pretty much no one around here without towing the boat for an hour. Also, I'm no mechanical wizard, to say the least, but fixing a trailer isn't rocket science and even I can manage that.

By combining the tools I keep in the truck and those I keep in the MH along with some field expedient "Macgyvering" - using the truck jack and heavy chunks of driftwood, etc, I was able to carefully lift the boat off the trailer enough to fix the trailer.

I'm confident it will work fine for the long tow back home. I am less confident about launching and recovering the boat at that ramp if conditions should become sporty, as they often do. The docks at the ramp are nice, but the underwater surface is very soft and shifting sand, so that one trailer wheel drops much lower than the other, while the boat comes on level - which is what (along with strong winds and pounding waves) caused the problem in the first place.

I'll think about it.

Yeah. I'm guessing that punctuation is your friend when making signs. :-)

See note to Bill above.

In the process of fixing the trailer, I discovered that one of the tires had developed a bad spot. The tires aren't that old, so that surprised me, but likely constant exposure to salt water and sun doesn't do tires much good. Since I have the CDL, I must drive the MH and Nancy will be driving the truck towing the boat for the two-day trip back home. I REALLY don't want a problem with her driving; and I had a new spare, so I put that on today, again with a little field Macgyvering with the truck jack and socket wrenches from the MH. :-) Should be fine now.

The real issue I am struggling with, to be sadly honest, is whether I'm getting too old for sailing small boats on big waters. Most people seem to be pretty realistic in dealing with their limitations as they age. I find that hard - want to keep pushing and pushing. In this scenario, however, a bad decision in that regard can be fatal - and just for me.

Out here, for example, if something happened to me, Nancy could never get the boat back to land on her own. We have a radio, so she could call for help, but it's a big place to find a small boat.

On the other hand, life isn't safe, never has been. And, I've always been a risk-taker.

So, some thinking to do.....

So did you leash up your dogs to clean up after the people eating children in this area? Were there enough leftovers to make it worth it?

I decided to contribute toward a punctuation class for the creator of the sign instead of cleaning up the leftover children. :-)

I think the point to think of is how frequent you may get into situations that require feats of strength or reflexes or skills to master that may exceed your current capabilities. That's not taking the same risks as you have gotten used to in that sport, but increasingly larger ones as your raw capabilities decline. That is partly offset by better judgment and experience, but of course at some point of time even judgment will be among the things in less than full supply.
