Super grateful for Olympus putting ProCapture in the OM1, so many shots saved because I'm always 1/2 second too late for that critical shot.

Yes, I agree. Pro Cap is one of my favorite features on the Oly & OM DS cameras.

I sold my PL100-400 & got the Oly 100-400 to use Pro Cap Low.

I have been using the OM 1 & 40-150 Pro on Hummingbirds with PCL with great results.

Thanks for the advice, looks like I may just have to go down this path of selling the PL 100-400mm to get the Olympus.

I thought that the PL100-400 and the Oly 100-400 had the same capabilities on the OM1and that is only the list of specified Oly lenses which have all the functionality. Am I wrong?

My understanding is both the pl and Olympus 100-400 can only use pro cap SH2 which has a maximum fps of 50. If my understanding is correct there is no reason for me to sell my place and replace with the Olympus 100-400. I have not used pro cap yet on my OM-1 so perhaps I am misinformed.

The Oly 100-400 can use SH2 but max fps is 25. There is a list on OM DS website that list the cameras that work at 50 fps. My 40-150 Pro does do 50 fps & hummingbirds are close enough for me to use it. Amazing how they can change position as fast as they do.

I don't know if the PL 100-400 will work with PCL on the OM1. It would not on my M1 II, III or X, thus one of my reasons for selling.

PL 100-400mm works with ProCapture SH1 and SH2, but not the ProCapture Low, which is needed for continuous AF (thats my understanding, please correct me if I am wrong)

The six lenses that access 50fps with SH2 are the two 12-40s, 12-100, 40-150/2.8, 150-400/4.5, 300/4.

Anecdotally, most m4/3 lenses can use it at 25fps, including both 100-400s. From what I've read here, anyway. Oly 100-400 gets the sync IS the PL can't.

25fps seems pretty good IMHO. 50fps is bogglingly fast (lucky me, have three of those six lenses).

Cheers,

Rick

Great captures of the Various Birds. It's great to see the amazing stuff people are doing with the PreCapture.

On the OM1 ProCapture and ProCapture SH2 have AF for each shot'

ProCapture SH1 focuses only once for first shot and then uses that for all shots in the sequence.

I tried ProCap SH2 on my OM-1 today for the first time using my PL 100-400 lens. ProCap SH2 was not greyed out so I assumed it would work. I half pressed the shutter button and heard a sound from the camera that sounded like the buffer was filling. I moved camera target from the subject then pressed the shutter all the way. When I looked at the photos recorded on the camera I learned that none of the preshot buffered photos were recorded. I went through this process several times to be sure of my findings. I am coming from a GH5 so perhaps I did something wrong here, I hope so.

Unless something has changed with ProCap on the OM-1 versus earlier models, the only way to get continuous AF in ProCap is with Oly lenses.

That, and taking the 1.4 TC are why I went with the Oly version even though it is slightly slower.

Its primary benefit to me is not having to go through the process of eliminating countless images that DIDN'T capture the moment I wanted.

Maybe practice on a clock to verify how many pre-release frames are present in the burst sequence.

Pre-shot frame count is default 12, you can change in settings. Sequence total default is 50 frames, also changeable or can be switched off, putting you at the buffer limit instead.

Cheers,

Rick

It has changed. The old Pro Capture Low was limited to specific lenses and now it's called Pro Cap SH2, which is divided by some lenses that can hit 50 fps versus others being limited to 25 fps. I was surprised at the difference, being used to the E-M1s. SH1 can hit 120 fps, locking focus.

Cheers,

Rick

My main point was that the earlier models can perform continuous AF only on Oly lenses.

Is that not also true of the OM-1?

No that is not true.

The following lenses are needed to do ProCapture SH2 but all other m4/3s lenses can do ProCapture and ProCapture SH1

M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO Ⅱ
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC 1.25x IS PRO
M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO

I have tried the PL 100-400 using both pro capture SH-1 and SH-2 and neither work with my OM-1. Neither are greyed out in the menu but both fail to record the pre burst portion. Once the shutter is pushed all the way down they do start taking sequential photos but none from the time the shutter was half pressed. I photographed a cell phone in stopwatch mode to determine when the photos were actually taken.

There was a thread that came out soon after the OM-1 was released where several people indicated their panasonic lens did work with pro capture. Maybe I am doing something wrong or those folks thought the pro cap process worked not realizing the pre burst portion of the photos were not written to the card? Again I tested mine by photographing a stopwatch and noting the time when I fully pressed the shutter. This was suggested to me by skeeterbytes .
