Your motorsport shots 5

You will get wet. 😄

Regards Ian Colley
Well, I got wet but not in a nice way.
😄 I was planning on heading there Saturday but had a few potential water issues myself at home. Drainage was just keeping up so stayed home just in case. Got 810mm of rain in six days, 233 mm on Sat. Faired reasonably well with only very minor water ingress through garage.

Watched live stream on YTube in between checking rain. I see they got some racing in until about 2pm, did you manage to get some decent photos. When they weather is better it’s a spectacular motorsport.

Regards Ian Colley
No, never made it there, I was flooded in. We had 1500mm over the six days, power went out on Saturday morning and just came back on this morning. Luckily I live on top of a hill so I didn't get any water damage.

These are fun. Don't have this kind of racing where I live. What does the passenger do?

Great photos prove you don't need a state of the art 45-60MP body, even a 16MP body or a FF sensor to make a good photo
For those interested in checking out V8 Jetsprinting, I just got notified that the American Season is about to start again soon, May 7th hopefully. Here is a link to the Association and a couple of race dates. Hopefully the location is close to some of you on here. I’m in Australia and access to racing is good for photography but I’m unsure in the U.S. what fencing there is to contend with.

Regards Ian Colley

I live in the Seattle area. These locations are conveniently on a route I travel between here and Reno, Nevada, and where I like to visit in Eastern Washington for various events. I might get to one this year.

First of the year for me, didn't stick around long though, event management didn't give me much hope. Didn't spend too long on the pics either.

When I get my hands on an OMS OM-1 I'll be able to dial in an ND6 without spinning a filter on the front of the lens. That will help get the shutter speed down on bright days. Even in Seattle, I can't count on rain, but it's a better than 50/50 chance in spring and fall. When I go to California the ND filtering feature will be helpful more often.

3- Wheeling a formula car. That looks like fun! Looks like a good place for spectators too.

It’s a great little track. Main spectator area is near start line and follows the 1st uphill section and allows great viewing of the whole track. If people are keen for an uphill trek through the bush there is a great viewing area at the top of the track between the two uphill loops.

Regards Ian.

Pretty good for a small sensor. Too bad Nikon didn't keep developing it. Knock down the highlights/glare and it compares with the pro body for these shots. I don't feel like the need for anything better for motorsports. No feather detail to capture. Nice to have something small to haul around all day.

Thanks, I just recently got the V1... I was looking for a small, lightweight system for taking to Italy later in the year... it's been proving itself in practically every situation I've thrown at it so far, and I'm getting more and more comfortable with it...

I found for motorsport the EVF lag on the V1 very distracting and made panning very difficult.

I can cope with the lag no bother.. what drives me nuts is it showing a preview after taking a shot...then have to half-press to get rid of it, by which time your subject has moved on...
Thats why the V2 and V3 are much better for sports than the V!.

Yes that's the problem it destroys your ability to use continuous shooting and frame each shot as you can with a DSLR.

I did not find the V2 to be much better and the V3 required a addon viewfinder. I had been wanting to buy the 70-300 if there had been a improvement in the viewfinder experience, but the announcement of a body without a viewfinder halted that.

You could get the first few shots framed but!

The last few would be out of position due to EVF delay causing your reflexes to adjust to what you saw in the viewfinder.

You could turn off the image preview on the V2 and V3, the viewfinder lag on the V3 was considerably less than the others also. The Viewfinder lives on my V3 just like an integrated one so it doesn't bother me that it's an add on.
