Sigma Art primes on Z system?

I bought the stellar 40 Art when I still had a dslr body. Now it comes out of its case for tripod based stacking and tracker-mounted astro. You’ve read the reason already in other replies.

Side note: Sigma Arts get top marks for the provided lens case and the hood. I’ve not experienced any other manufacturer’s hood lock that could compete; the ranking is Sigma for Gold, Zeiss for Silver and a couple of contenders for bronze including Z mount.

If you rent a Nikon F mount tele with a plastic locking hood the chances are good that the soft plastic is turning into a distorted nub and the hood may fall off. The carbon fiber hoods for the supers are excellent but that may be out of scope for this thread.

I have used the Sigma 14 and 35 with the FTZ II with no issues on my Z9. I will be testing my Sigma Sport 150-600mm next week.

Not that someone would do this for a rental, but didn't someone used to make CFRP hoods for the Nikon superteles? I remember the hot setup for the 200/2 was one of those hoods and the RRS foot.

“so I will keep on shooting with the F mount and even those Sony G Master ( such as 14 F1.8, 35F1.4, 85 1.4, 135 1.8) on my Z9”

You can use Sony lenses on a Nikon Z9?
Yes, there is a few different Sony E-mont to Nikon Z adapter, I have the Techart, it works great, even AF works, decently fast, Itested the eye focus tracking with my Sony 85 1.4GM on the Z9 yesterday and the hit rate is over 90%, not a athlete running but just a person walking toward me at regular walking speed, and I have also test the 14 1.8, 35 1.4GM all worked fine, will test the rest of my Zeiss Loxia and Voigtlander manual focus prime, but they are MF so I see no reason why I would have issue with them.

I'm wondering, for the Nikon Z models, if anyone has compared the 20mm 1.8S to the Rokinon 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC Lens (with adapter). I have the rokinon and used it on my D750 but I now have the Z7ii and am wondering if I'm good with the Rokinon or if the Z 20mm 1.8S is much better?

The Sigma Art primes all worked great on the Z. Surprisingly so. Even so, I sold all of mine (24, 35, 50) to get the Z 1.8 lenses. I'm giving up f1.4 and fairly decent bokeh (on the 50 at least) in exchange for the smaller and lighter Z lenses that I'm more likely to carry. If you're doing studio or event work then the Sigma lenses are still excellent.... I'd argue even better on the Z due to better focus precision and stabilization. The Z glass is going the have the edge in better sharpness across the frame (plenty of comparisons out there). If size and weight matters at all then the Z is going to be a better choice. F1.8 vs F1.4 wasn't enough different to swing it for me.

Thank for this One of my main concerns is starbursts I’ve never had a lens that makes starbursts like my friend’s canon 16-35 2.8 I like that range a lot especially for city night photography. Just can’t seem to find a lens that makes those pin point starbursts for a a Nikon mount whether it be f mount or z mount

May I ask if you are using mark 1 or mark 2 version of the Techart adapter? What is the firmware version? And lastly, have you tried doing interval shooting on Z9 with E-mount lenses?

Much appreciated if you could answer my questions!

This is version 2 of the adapter, I have not checked what version firmware version though, I purchased it from B&H about two months ago, as soon as I received it I tested it wit the lens and it works fine so I never bother to check.

I just did bunch of time lapse with the Z9 with the Sony 14GM and 35GM last week when I was in Zion and Bryce shooting Milky Way, the combo works fine in Time Lapse shooting.

We all know Nikon z optic very good but question is ,,is sigma14-24 f2.8 art gonna work good on Nikon z6ii camera!I need id for occasional shots and try to decide 14-24 Nikon or sigma art better(planning to buy used)Z14-28 too pricey for a few shots for me

I can't judge about the Sigma Art lenses, but I frequently use a Sigma 60-600 Sports with FTZ on my Z9. The only issue I have with this lens is, that it refused to focus when I change from subjects near minimum focus distance to subjects 20m or more away or the other way around. Then I have to manually prefocus the lens.

But be aware of the direction of focus and zoom controls on Sigma beeing the opposite of the Nikon directions.

I think you should be totally fine with that, I used that for Airshow on my Z9 and it works great. of course not " great" like a 500 PF or Z 600mm but it's as good as I can ask for a slow 3rd party zoom.

Well, the OP is long gone on this one, so we can pivot to your question. Are you looking at Sigma Art primes or a zoom to cover the 14-28 range? Which Sigma are you asking about.

I only ever had the heavy 105mm f/1.4 on F-mount and it worked just as well on my Z9 as it did on my D800 and D850. If anything final focus was (marginally) faster and more accurate due to the huge improvements that the Z9 brought.

I only sold it because of the release of the 85mm f/1.2 (and I would have sold it for the Plena if the 1.2 had never been released)

I found my 105 F1.4 works much better on my Z9 with adapter compare to my D850 and D500 due the huge improvement on the AF system on the Z9.
