Hi all, and happy Tuesday!

I am new to cleaning my sensors (read: first time) and I'm a little confused as to what size swab I need. (I watched the YouTube tutorials recommended to me by regular posters on here).

It's been recommended to me to use Eclipse fluid, which I ordered, but their website recommends a 17mm swab and another site recommends a 20mm swab? Of course they're sized differently for a reason, but if I continue to have difficulty narrowing it down, can I substitute another/close as possible size? Again, it's a D7100.

Thanks!

The D7100 sensor size is 23.5mm x 15.6mm which is pretty much the same for all DX cameras.

The swabs I use are 15.7mm wide (measured just now with callipers). Given that this includes the cloth covering, I don't think 0.1mm makes any major difference. At any rate, they clean my D70 and D90 cameras just fine. I also use them on my D750.

A swab width of 20mm would be too wide on a D7100.

I also make my own swabs but you are a cleaning neophyte so you don't need that hassle just yet.

You need to buy ones that are normally sized as 1.6x . The spec of the swab will tell you the size they're for.

The only straight forward method I found

Just search APS-C swabs.

I have a Nikon D7000, and I use 16mm APS-C sensor swabs with cleaner. They work just fine.

Great, thanks! I'll search around for that size.

Thanks - I'll definitely check it out.
