Sorry, but I keep thinking of some. Is it possible to end the slide show on the last picture and have it stop there and then hit the escape key to exit the program?

TIA --

Brenda

PS - hey Beta Brothers - has ProShow sent you the beta version yet? Huh, huh, have they? I think when you get it, you should all take leave time from your jobs so you can get the bugs worked out.

(:

I dont think so unless I am missing something. If you dont include a menu then the slideshow will just exit. Why do you need to do this ?

Need some last minute opinions on ps vs memoriesontv. Any thoughts about which program to go with? I love the pan/zoom, but it seems ps is more user friendly and more stable. And it sounds like maybe ps will eventually go with pan/zoom. One other thing, do the transitions on memoriesontv bring the quality level down as well, just like with Proshow? That seems really odd that by using transitions you make the quality of the show worse. Anyway, just wanted some more opinions.

Hi,

By using transitions you are turning a still pic with reasonable quality into a film or movie because the transition is moving at some frames per second I think. Therefore the while show now is a film and not a still image and the software drops the quality because of this.
That is for vcd and svcd ., dont know about dvd tho.

jpl,

The folks at photodex just released a screen shot that shows buttons labelled "motion effects" and "DVD" and the user interface looks like theyve updated it quite a bit. You get free upgrades for a year. Even if you get proshow now you should still get the next version of proshow by just downloading it and installing it. Ive played with both proshow and memories and proshow has much more depth in my opinion. Once they get the motion and the DVD authoring in there it should be hard to beat with any other software Ive seen.

Good quality DVD should be able to do transitions without the same kind of problems caused by the VCD and SVCD format. The DVD video files proshow makes now are pretty darn good, including the transitions that move a lot.

The problem with VCD video is that it is 352 x 240, where still images have almost four times as many pixels (704 x 480). VCD is also 30 frames per second where DVD uses 60 half frames, making motion much smoother. DVD doesnt have this kind of differential - I dont think there is a DVD still mode that is higher qualiy because the resolution is always the same (someone correct me if Im wrong?) But, you have to have a DVD burner and use more expensive media.

(I'm in the US so everything I just said is for NTSC, where PAL has higher vertical resolution but a slower frame rate, which I think ends up being the about the same amount of video data.)

This is correct, VCD with transitions is horrible no matter what software you use compared to DVD. SVCD is much better, but DVD is the best. There is no loss of quality using transistions with DVD made slideshows. It should not be too long before the release of the new Proshow 2 and it will have motion effect and DVD authoring. This will be the best you can get in my opinion.

Here's what I want to do, and I think to accomplish this, I'll have to set everything manually, which I haven't done - I typically put my slides and music in and hit the auto sync button.

For my fall vacation slide show, I have 237 slides, 5 songs totalling 1,156.4 seconds of audio which puts each slide at 2.9 seconds with a 2 second transition. I'm ok with the 2.9 on all the slides except the very last one. It just seems it ends too quick, so how would I keep everything as it is except maybe have the very last slide stay onscreen for 4-5 seconds before it fades out? I want the music to end on the last slide and I don't mind if the slide sits there for a few seconds after the music ends. I always place "The End" on the very last slide - is this do-able? And if so, can any of you math gurus out there tell me how to reconfigure my slide show so I can accomplish this?

TIA --

If I understand you right, cant you just adjust the very last slide. Sync everything like you want with the automatic feature and then just highlight the last slide and change its duration.

Well, I thought when I hit 'auto sync' that it sycronized from the first to the last slide show - I didn't know I could select the last slide and make it different, but that's exactly what I want to do. I'm leaving the house for a bit but when I get back, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Thanks guys for the quick responses. You talk about PS version 2 possibly having motion effect-- do you mean like the Ken Burns (pan/zoom) or adding video clips, or both? And by DVD authoring, you mean burning to DVD media, right? Still trying to get a handle on all of these terms. Thanks.

Yes, DVD authoring means burning to DVD media for superb results. Motion Effects means pan/zoom (Ken Burns). The new version will also let you import video into a slideshow.

It does sync from the first to the last, but you can go back and select any slide and change just that slides duration. Of course if you shorten a slide, then the music will run long and if you lengthen a slide then the music will be short. In other words, it will be out of sync, but you said that did not matter since it was the last slide and you wanted it to run longer.

Jason
Well, I thought when I hit 'auto sync' that it sycronized from the

Or, you could manually reduce slightly the length of time of a few slides to compensate for the extra time on the last one so that the sound finishes at the same time as the slide.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to simply copy the last slide two or three times, however long you want it to last, and put them all at the end. The transitions are not noticeable in identical pictures. Then, when you sync the music, you'd end with a longer final frame closing out in sync! It's worked for me on Movie Factory.

I took Jason's suggestion and added about 5 seconds to the last slide and it's perfect. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, and then I just happened to click on the seconds in the box and saw that I could change it there - talk about feeling like "DUH"!

Brenda

Brenda,
Have had that feeling myself more than once. Glad you figured it out though.

ps - gotten any mail lately ??

It didn't arrive Friday but more than like was delivered Saturday at the office. I'll let you know tomorrow if it arrived. I guess it worked out for the best because I was out most of yesterday and need to scan a ton of pics for a grandchildren slide show I'm making for my parents for Christmas this afternoon - I don't need any 'toy' distractions. LOL
