Hi All I am having thoughts of urgrading to full frame mirrorless camera from canon eos 77D crop cameras.I will be going the second hand route I am assuming at this stage depending on price and trade in value. I am not looking for a beast of a camera weight wise.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks in advance

If you want to buy used, then your best bet is going to be a DSLR like a Canon 5Div, but you won't be able to use any EF-S lenses that you have.

If you want to go FF mirrorless, then you may find that there aren't so many used Canon and Nikon FF mirrorless bodies available because the cameras haven't been around for long. That might limit you to Sony A7 series bodies.

You could look at a new Canon RP or Nikon Z5.

Canon and Nikon released their very first mirrorless full-frame cameras in late 2018. Panasonic had its first FF mirrorless in early 2019. That's not a lot of time to really develop a thriving used market.

Sony FF mirrorless has been around since late 2013 but the AF system of the earliest models just don't compare to what's available today (A7S & A7R are CDAF only!). The A7III might be a candidate for you. The A7 & A7II have PDAF points in the central part of the frame - much like a FF DSLR - and slower CDAF points elsewhere.

Then there's Leica but you probably don't want to go there.

there are so many options, to narrow it down it would help to know what you shoot and what your priorities are, approximate budget, whether you'd consider to buy used...

Reiterating what others have said -

if dslr then I imagine Canon are going to be more familiar ( rather than eg a D750 or Pentax )

MILC: Sony is the natural choice for first consideration but, I would also suggest gen 3 or later. Unfortunately the A7iii used is pretty expensive - more than a Z5 or Z6 on the Nikon side and I haven’t followed Canon MILC apart from the high end ones. Most MILC bodies are pretty compact.

Mirrorless lenses are going to be expensive - maybe there are enough used Sony FE fit now on the used market to take the edge of that.

Conversely, DSLR lenses are going to be cheaper and more plentiful to source - Canon or Nikon.

Hi thanks for your reply yes varied mainly landscape photography, but I am interested in macro, portrait, street etc.Budget say max €1500 to €2000.00 using existing lens.A camera that has the latest tech features would be important.I am not a professional photographer if that makes any difference.

Full frame, mirrorless not sure which way to go:-|

One other question do I need to upgrade million dollar question will it be of benefit I am told it will!!!

Thanks in advance

What lenses do you have? EF-S lenses will produce cropped images on FF.

Only you can decide whether you need to upgrade. FF will give better low light capability and shorter depth of field if you need it. But you will probably have to buy at least one new general purpose lens. As others have said, if you want to buy used you will probably have to go with a Sony A7ii.

Hi thanks for the response I have a mixture EFS(general purpose lens 15-85mm) and EF lens 70-300mm and nifty fifty/macro

Food for thought
