Would you ever buy or look for another camera after buying Z9

Where would you stop? do you think Nikon will upgrade Z9 down the line? if so would you upgrade to Z9ii for example
Yes and I am doing so now

I need to replace an XT3 that I loved to carry around during those times where I will be walking around for hours and hours

Thinking hard about snagging a gently used Fuji XT4 and a small zoom for those times.

until then, I'll either use the Z7II or Z6, but only with the smallish 24-70 F4 for stuff like Disney or Universal studios, etc

Absolutely. The Z9 isn't the end all be all of cameras. This is a strange question.
It is and it isn't. It's a similar situation to how people still swear by their D850s and D5s There are cameras that nail exactly what people need and are hard to replace. The Z9 will be that for a lot of people. If they had a 24MP version as well? At that point, it would be hard to see what else someone would need.
But they don't, so the gaping hole leaves really obvious needs for many, making the question strange to me.
Over on the Canon side, they came out the R3 and the collective response from the community was that there wasn't any great need for that camera and that most are just waiting on an R1. So, the higher megapixel camera is the greater half of the equation.

Sure I would... because I have GAS, and there's always a better tool coming out, that I just have to own.

It may well be, although I sure haven't seen that in my circles. I was simply saying that there really isn't a perfect all around FF camera.

It's not even on my radar due to its size.

Absolutely, but only after I had sold all my Nikon gear to buy whatever Canon came out with in the meantime.

Not necessarily. A 75 year old may have the opposite opinion of a 45 year old.

Yes, I’m the type who is always looking. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t own a Z9 now since I haven’t been a Nikon user since the film days.

But still waiting for my Z9 at the moment.

As for me, I thought the d850 was my last camera …. So whatever I say is irrelevant!

Of course they will. There are some shortcomings of most mirrorless cameras and some of the Z series I'd like to see addressed at some point either by firmware or new hardware:

1) A mode where the camera AF's wide open and stops down to take the photo like on a DSLR. I don't see why this isn't an option. I would think the Z9 could simulate the exposure in the EVF or rear screen.

2) Cross type AF points.

3) AF assist lights from speedlights, either by changing the light color on the speed lights or by including some non-green AF points.

4) I'm sure at some point Nikon will make even better AF algorithms that will be able to read your mind. :D

Mirrorless cameras don't do this? What would be the advantage?

If they did they would never focus on anything. :-)

Forgot to add:

5) No buffer penalty for writing to both CFExpress slots. Currently, the buffer is dramatically shortened if you write to both CFExpress slots, whether its RAW/JPEG, mirrored RAW/RAW, mirrored RAW+JPEG/RAW_JPEG. I'd like to be able to get the same buffer depth when I do mirrored writes to both slots.

My 4.5 year old D850 is in some ways currently very relevant and in other ways there are now Nikon bodies with some more advanced features.

5 years from now I expect production of the D850 will have ended.

Ten year's from now I expect production of the Z9 will have ended.

At some time in the future I intend subject to knowing price and specification to upgrade my Z7 to a "Z7III" and/or to add a "Z8".

can you marry a camera? :-P

Hi,

Sure. It might not be the incremental upgrade of a Z9-2 tho.

I did incrementally upgrade from the E2 to the E3. Also the D1 to the D1H. So, I can't say never.

But I stuck with the F5 based Kodak DCS 760c, 6 MP APS-H from 2003 thru 2018 when I finally sprung for a Df. That means I skipped over the D3 and D4 series.

I did go from D1H to D2H and quickly regretted that move. Actually, that taught me to not jump on new stuff...Like the Z9. I'm still sitting on the sidelines to see just how it all goes.

But should I get a Z9, and so far it looks good, I know it isn't the end.

I am 100% sure I will. In fact, I am already looking forward to the rumored Canon R1, I am multiple system user and always prefer the Canon 1 Series body over the Nikon D5 body, so Z9 for sure will not be my last camera, not even the last camera for next few year for sure.

I can already see i will replace my A7R IV with a Z8 or whatever they may call it, a small 60MP landscape camera. but again, I am not sitting there dreaming and waiting for the next best thing, I will keep on buying and using what is available in the market now and upgrade as new products becomes available.
