FEC response from Canon Japan

Sorry Mark and others (Americans and Janapeses).

I am not American and there are japaneses in my own family, and I love Japanese culture, food, etc.

I also works at Hitachi Data Systems (Japanese company), and have a lot of Americans and Japaneses friends.

So, please really sorry for that. I´m just using the term "japs" as an abreviation, just it.

I really do not know about the WWII connection, so I´ll stop to use this abreviation.

I hate wars and everything related to violence.

Please all, excuse me for that. It was not my intention.

I respect you all Japaneses and Americans very much.

Chris
No, I'm not a politically correct person (I'm actually a Republican
and quite conservative), but this is 2003, and the term you used
hasn't been used since WWII, wake the f%@k up! I hope you're not
American, but you probably are, and you make us all look bad.

The word is no more acceptable than the dreaded "N" word.....

It was a terrible war, but it's been over for almost 60 years.....

Some way we need to put the japs under pressure...

This is a very different situation. The complaints are legitimate.

I got curious about the referenced spec page, so I started looking at other Canon web pages. All I find are at 146.184.6.nnn, while this one is at an entirely different IP address. Also, if I PING a canon IP, I get a response, while this 213.247.48.188 times out.

All very suspicious. I could easily take a real Canon spec page and alter it to include additional specs. Can you verify the source of this spec sheet?

Me got the exact response from Canon Japan too.... looks like they
just cut and paste to all those who send them the FEC email.... :)
Maybe they have a script looking for FEC in the subject/body text
and automatic send this useless answer.

That's a fair point. I can't comment since I haven't received my 300D yet (patience patience) but then I think we have a much better chance of getting results if we ask Canon to fix the underexposure problem with flash as opposed to asking for a new feature.

Brainiac5,

IMO, maybe everybody wants FEC now b/c onboard flash performance
(for most) is sub-average. If DR flash would perform like any
regular camera, even like half priced cameras, no one will be even
think about FEC.

without notice...

As is says in the user manual.

I don't see that we paid for FEC, we paid for a camera with the capabilities that Canon has released.

--jalle
Anyway, people who purchased the 300D have paid for the FEC
function, as it is built into the firmware. You can access it by
10Dremote and external flash units. So we are not asking something
that we have not paid for, but we just want to make the camera more
user freindly.
I don't understand you people.
You bought the camera knowing that it does not have this feature.
It was cheap BECAUSE it does not have this feature and some other
features. How come you write to canon afterwards asking them to add
it? Why do you expect them to provide an extra functionality that
you didn't pay for?

Guys,

That´s the question / response / reply I sent/received/sent to Canon US :

QUESTION SENT :
INQUIRY=Based on this web page, the camera HAS FEC.
So, why it doesn´t ?
What´s the plann to implement it via firmware or other way
in order to attend the information related at the
specifications web page ?
Tks

RESPONSE FROM CANON ADMITING LITERATURE ERRORS :

Subject: Re: - Canon EOS Digital Rebel (KMM2326383V9270L0KM)

Dear Chris Fabbri,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regrettably, the EOS Digital Rebel does not have the Flash Exposure
Compensation function. Canon is aware of this information in some Canon
literature and it is being correctly. We regret any difficulties this
may cause.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Customer Satisfaction... The most important product we support!

--------------
MY REPLLY TO THAT :

Canon do not need to correct its official literature (see also Canon site : http://www.canon.com/ ... ... camera/digital/data/2003_eos-kiss_d_s.html) , but needs to correct the camera (enable FEC locked feature) based on your own documents statement.

So, as a Canon customer for more than 10 years, the only way to demonstrate some respect for me and other Canon customers, is to do what you write at your internet documentation. And Yes, there are a lot of difficulties caused by the lack of this so BASIC feature that even Canon PS G-Series does... and I hope Canon do the right thing with their customers unlocking FEC funtion at 300D / Digital Rebel. Nikon is just watching...

Sorry Todd, but your response is not acceptable, and I cannot imagine Canon should give this bad response to their customers community.

I´ll let many others Canon customers (friends and forum friends) know this response you gave me, and let´s see what´s will happen them.

Tks for your time and efforts on giving me this kind of response.

Chris Fabbri
-------------------------

That´s it folks.. if I ´ll receive any response I do not know, but if yes, I´ll put it here later.

NOTE: I am not american, but if I make these kind of question to my local Canon office, probably the answer will be : "What´s FEC ??" ;-))
Hope you understand,

Chris Fabbri

It's a web site Canon used for the launch of the 300D, and it has some cool pictures of the timeslice rig that they had on display at the launch party.

All the specs put out by canon prior to the launch and short after the lanch all contain FEC. Even Phil ( Phil Askey ) make the same mistake on his DPReview site (presumably copied straight out from Canon's own specs sheet).

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=5952999

There were a lot of confusion about FEC at the beginning.
All very suspicious. I could easily take a real Canon spec page
and alter it to include additional specs. Can you verify the
source of this spec sheet?

They will always try to avoid insulting or dissapointing you so they just give an answer that says nothing at all.

It's not white, it's not black, it's not even gray but that's the way a Japanese will answer such a question.

He doesn't know how to make you feel happy and the received answer is the result.

Not at all surprisingly for me.

FWIW, the IP address in question is registered to CODIM Interactive Media in The Netherlands.

Brainiac5,

We know that we pay for a camera without FEC feature but then again what is the harm of asking Canon.

Look at the recent 10D firmware upgrade, bridgeprint features was not added in earlier version and yet CAnon add it in to enhance the 10D firmware. The same point, 10d buyers pay without bridgeprint and yet they getting it today.

So what's wrong for us to petrition Canon to incoporate FEC into 300D as this feature do exist in 300d and it is a matter of turning it on.

Have a gread day.
