Upgrade from X-T2 to X-T4 or X-H1?

I've had the X-T2 for years and it's a great camera. Thinking its about time to upgrade, I mainly use it for street photography, product, portraits, and casual lifestyle. Currently have a 23mm and 16mm.

Which would be a better upgrade for the value?

Financially speaking, the X-H1 will be cheaper.

Otherwise, the X-H1 has IBIS which is good for the non-OIS primes but the X-T3 has better autofocus and the newer sensor.

I have both (plus the X-T4 and X-S10) and I don’t really have a favourite. The X-H1 handles better with larger lenses, mainly due to the deeper grip, image quality is similar, the autofocus is slightly better on the X-T3.

I guess you need to decide what is more important for you. Large lenses and unstabilised lenses work best with the X-H1 (IMO) but the X-T3 with an add-on grip is no slouch either.

Of course, the X-T4 is the best of both worlds. :)

Just keep in mind the X-H1 is probably tricky to find now, except second hand. Also in a few months Fujifilm will be announcing their next gen (likely the X-H2), so prices on the X-T4 may drop a bit further by then, depends how soon you're wanting to upgrade.

The X-T4 also has the newer sensor, upgraded IBIS and the new larger battery.

I have an X-T2 and about a month ago, I bought an X-Pro2. Before that, I thought about an X-T3, but I only shoot photo, zero video, and besides two extra megapixels, I saw little value in upgrading to the X-T3.

I hate articulating LCD screens. I had one on the Panasonic GX8 I owned and the only thing I liked is I could turn the screen completely around and keep my nose prints off the LCD because I am a left-eye dominate shooter. Otherwise those articulating LCDs are like having a side view mirror on your camera, so I will never get an X-T4. Of course, video guys love those articulating screens, so if you're into video, you may like the X-T4.

I've never paid any attention to the X-H1 and have no opinion one way or the other. However, X-H1 users are excited about the soon to be announced X-H2, so unless your budget is an issue, you may want to wait and see what the X-H2 has to offer.

I'm in the same boat, the X-T2 has been my main camera for a couple of years, and I constantly have GAS and think of 'upgrading' to one of the cameras that you mentioned. But, like you said, the T2 is a great camera. I love the images that this camera produces, and neither the X-H1 nor the T4 are going to be noticeably better, if better at all, as far as image quality.

Admittedly, IBIS would be nice, but I've never had a camera with IBIS, so I don't miss it, and the lenses you have, 16+23, aren't really lenses that scream out for IBIS. Whether or not you need it, or that it will help capture better images is a decision only you can make.

For what I shoot, the AF on the T2 gets the job done. Would I like to have better AF? sure why not? but the AF on the X-H1 will be basically the same, or at best, only marginally better. By all accounts the AF of the T4 is better, I haven't tried it so I can't speak from personal experience, but $1,500 is a lot of money to me for better AF that I rarely feel I need (plus the flippy screen makes the T4 a no go for me)

Supposedly, Fuji will be making some big announcements in May, which is really right around the corner, so unless you REALLY need IBIS, or the AF on the T2 is hindering your ability to capture great images, it might be best to sit tight and see what's coming next. If nothing else, new announcements usually lead to lower prices for older models on the used market.

Good Luck with your choices

X-H1 vs X-T2: higher-res EVF, IBIS, ergonomically very different, more sensitive shutter. IQ and AF performance will be the same. Arguable if it's an "upgrade". My favourite camera ever though :)

X-T4 vs X-T2: spec upgrades almost all-around; improved AF and slight IQ increase. Better battery. More film sims. MUCH better video. Similar form factor but many people do not like the articulating LCD (not as discrete especially for street).

Have you considered the X-T30ii for many of the improvements of the X-T4 but in a smaller form factor? Or the X-S10 (though that also has an articulating screen and a PSAM dial)? Or the X-T3 for improved AF and WR? Edit: forgot to add that the X-T3 also has the better 3.69m EVF from the X-H1.

I own a X-T2, X-H1, and X-T4.

I would go with the X-T4.

The X-H1 is a larger and heavy camera body; it reminds me of my old Canon EOS gear. That extra weight and size is a reason why I've left the X-H1 at home since buying the X-T4.

The X-H1 does have an awesome shutter button and would balance nicely with Fujifilm's larger and heavier lenses; but, it is not much of an upgrade to the X-T2 given the X-H2 should be announced sometime this year with presumably the next generation sensor tech. X-H1 would then be two gens older; while the X-T4 one gen older.

I like the size/handling of the X-T4. With the newer battery, the finger grip is a bit larger than the older X-Tx series cameras, which is a good thing for hand-holding stability. It goes well with my 16/1.4, 23/1.4 and 23/2 primes in my camera bag.

Do you really need IBIS? Neither camera will get you better IQ than the X-T2, maybe get some new glass instead?

The X-T3 and X-T4 have a lot of other improvements over the X-T2; better AF and what I'd call "quality of life" improvements.

Those may matter for some people, but certainly not for all.

The X-H1 is a great camera, it's my goto-camera these days, but I don't think it'll have many upgrades over the X-T2 as it is the same sensor and processing unit inside. So what you will get is primarily IBIS, a better grip, and more weight.

I'd second the advice to wait for the X-H2: even if that's not going to be the machine you'll want to upgrade to, it will affect the prices of all other models.

From whyt I have read, the X-T4 and teh X-H1 are more aimed at still & video (the X-H1 even more so). Thus I would look at an X-T3 unless you think IBIS is important for stills.
