Z9 in the house…

Thank you for the report.

The issue of the CFe card heating was reported by Ricci (among others) and its severity depends on the model of card you have. If my memory serves me well the Delkin black is the one that works best.

Oh, and this is also my first foray into CFExpress cards vs XQD. Not a fan, as they got really HOT in the reader - I know I read about it before, but it still surprised me how hot they got. Since I don’t think I need the buffer that I would get from CFEpress, I think I can shoot with XQD and use my huge stash of cards and the reader that doesn’t scorch my fingers when the card comes out, LOL.
Which CFE card you were using? There is great temp difference depending on the card, as can be seen in this review:

The fastest card in this test (Delkin Black) had also by far the lowest operating temperature.

Unfortunataly those seem to be one the hottest cards out there: 80°C with Sandisk vs 39°C for the Delkin Black.

I'd go with the Delkin Black or ProGrade Digital Cobalt CFE. Nikon's own Z9 buffer tests were done with the latter (325GB model).
