R5/R6 Firmware 1.5.0 - Files removed from most Canon web site.

Was out shooting Snowy Owls and I couldn't wake it after it went to sleep. All I got was the black screen (with info surrounding it). Had to yank the battery, then operation was restored.

I did have this happen once in the past year (where I actually had to pull the battery), but this was too coincidental (with yesterday's v1.5.0 update).

I had the main AF Mode set to "Spot," the IS was on (mode 1), with Continuous AF turned off. Sony Tough 512 GB CFe card, almost full OEM LP-E6NH batt. Didn't lose any files that I know of.

R2
perhaps, it was not caused by 1.5.0 but an existing issue that your R5 has have?
Happened me (first time ever) immediately after updating R5 to 1.5 also.
Just had my second ever lock up with my R5, and my second since upgrading to 1.5. And I’ve hardly used it in that period. Without a shadow of a doubt too much of a coincidence not to be related to the firmware.

Edit: I’m not getting black screens like the other poster, rather the auto image review is freezing and no amount of button pressing or turning off the power button will get it to unfreeze - only a battery removal does the trick.

R5 (latest firmware 1.5.0) with using EF 70-200 F2.8 mk2. Using back button focus set for spot focus and then switch to custom “*” button for new vehicle tracking option(race cars on track).

Quick switching from spot focus to “*” vehicle tracking and back is causing the R5 to freeze up - black death. Only about 1200 shots total on camera. EV was blank and I had to restart camera 4 x times in order to revive. Single memory card –SanDisk Extreme Pro CFexpress 128GB.

I don't know why that is happening but I would not use spot focus for that. That is a specialty option and It has less coverage. Single point covers more surface area and you want to find as much contrast as you can, especially when something is moving. Canon recommends not to use Spot AF when tracking subjects.

Canon pulled many excellent articles off the web. I don't know why. I found this but now it wants me to pay to open page. Someone found a link t the complete article. Maybe someone can help out.

On the second page one paragraph starts with Precise does not mean more Accurate, or something like that.

While searching the interwebs for the complete article I came across this.

That's interesting because I changed from 'Spot AF' to '1-Point AF' and back again during shooting this week, causing the camera (EOS R6) to lose the ability to Eye-Detect. Altering any setting made no difference and the camera refused to detect eyes in any mode with any setting until the camera was turned off and then back on again. This was with the recent Firmware 1.5.0 update. When the Eye-Detect became inactive, the camera first refused to engage the Eye-detect at all. After attempting to re-engage Eye-Detect, the camera would focus on all sorts of inanimate subjects instead. It ignored human and animal eyes and instead focused on belt buckles and picture frames etc. Again, the situation was only resolved by turning the camera off and then on again (in my case).
.
I even held off updating for a week to see if there were any reports of issues with the new Firmware. It's annoying as heck that the reports started surfacing days after I updated. Canon needs to issue a fix or their service centers are going to be swamped with repairs and returns. I find the issue irritating (at the least).
